cramping and slight bleeding before my actual period? - Menopause Message Board

Hi everyone. i am 39 years old (just turned at the end of February). I have had bouts of insomnia for about a solid year now. Most recently I have had very light spotting and cramping. This starts a week before my actual period. Now I am on birth control and have been for years. I went to my doctor with this problem and she did a pelvic ultrasound and pap test. As far as I know everything is normal. This was done a week ago. She switched my pills as well. I still have the same problem as before! Now I cramp like I am not even on the pill. It doesn't hurt, but it is VERY UNCOMFORTABLE!! I was also having breast tenderness. Ladies, does this sound like perimenopause? My doctor says I am too young, but honestly I think she is full of it! and just does not want to admit it to me!! Yes I am an army wife and have to go to certain doctor's unfortunately. NOT always but sometimes I feel like they just do whatever to get you out the door! I am totally frustrated. Has anyone had the cramping, etc. while on the pill? thanks for listening!

Melanie..I do the same thing, I am not on the pill, but about a week before my period actually starts I get this funky discharge/spotting. Not a lot of cramps, but they are noticable. My period also has gotten weird, sometimes heavy, but always shorter. I was bleeding a full 6 days, now I bleed 4 and only one day is heavy.
My doc doesn't really believe in perimenopause, but he does say that all of my symptoms are "normal" for a woman in her late 30s and 40s. I just turned 45 and these symptoms have been slowly creeping up on me since I was 41.
