I've had very dry lips a couple weeks now, and they feel like they are swollen or have had botox. Its not just the cold weather, I've lived where its cold forever, this is different. Just wonder if this too is a menopause symptom, and if anyone else has this? This board is so helpful, its hard to believe there are so many women with the same problems. I swear, the doctors aren't even aware of all this going on with us. They ALL need to read these posts!!!
Yes!! I've had this but I haven't been real sure it's menopause-related... it's not my entire lip, just the corners of my mouth - sometimes the upper lip. It's very painful, not to mention unsightly!! I have found that keeping them moist with petroleum jelly helps somewhat to PREVENT it from happening, but once they crack not much seems to help once they are cracked. Humidity seems to make a difference - I'm in Ohio and we had a very dry summer, I'm curious as to your climate...?
I have had this problem for many years and it can vary year to year. My lips will swell up and crack for no reason at all. There have been years that everything was fine and then out of the blue they will swell again and be extremely painful. I don't think it is menopause related. I found that if I drink lots of water and put some sort of moisture on them, it helps a great deal. (The Burt's Bee's brand works the best for me.)
I think the weird lips phenomenom IS caused by perimenopause/hormone imbalance. I drink lots of water and apply chapstick regularly, but a couple of weeks ago for some odd reason my lips got really "raw". It would sting to eat salty food - it was like an open wound. The water and chapstick helped I suppose, but didn't take it away completely. Then it got better for whatever reason - maybe my hormone levels fluctuated favorably and this changed the moisture content in my skin. Who knows - but I do think it is hormone related.
