Non-stop bleeding for weeks

Hi everyone,
My mom which is 49 has been experiencing a lot of excessive bleeding. She told me her period lasted about 3 weeks then stopped for maybe a week at the most and then got her period again about 2 weeks ago and is still on it! So in the past 6 weeks she has been on her period for 5 weeks! I know she is at that age where she could be in the peri menopause stage but I am worried. Has anyone here experienced something like that? She should be setting up an appointment maybe next week to get her Pap-Smear and hopefully that will add more clarity.

Thank you

Re: Non-stop bleeding for weeks

This is not unusual in perimenopause. It is good that she is going to the doctor. Probably nothing to worry about.Godbless

Re: Non-stop bleeding for weeks

Hi Simply.....my last period lasted for 3 weeks. I went to the doctor, who did an endometrial biopsy and am scheduled for an ultasound in Jan. Neither one of us is worried however because I have been having peri symptoms for over 3 years, my worst being weight gain and anxiety (I am now 43), and he seems to think I am coming to the end(I hope!!). He perscribed some progesterone for a week to give me a break during Christmas, but I am waiting for it to start up again any minute......oh the wonderful world of peri.....Your Mom should be checked out to make sure nothing is wrong and check for anemia, also have your Mom go on this site....it helped me to know I wasn't crazy.
