After 12 years of normal pap smears, my pap came up abnormal this December. It shows ASCUS - HPV negative. She also said the cells indicate metaplastic changes which were normal changes as opposed to dyplasia which is an abnormal change.

My doctor did a colposcopy on 12/17.
During the procedure , she said the condition was "very mild" and did not even bother to do a biopsy. She said worst case scenario, she would just repeat the pap in 3-4 months.
Apparently she just did another pap during the colposcopy. The results of this pap are the same - ASCUS.

I had been waiting a month for the results so I went to the office today to get these results. She gave me a brochure for "cryotherapy" and I have an appointment for it in 2 weeks.

My question is - Would it be safe to wait until April and just have a repeat pap rather than the cryo now? I would also like to speak to my PCP first to get her take on it. I ask because from what I read on the internet a lot of doctors adopt a "watch and see" approach as many of these conditions eventually resolve on thier own.

I wonder if this has anything to do with Perimenopause. I am 52. Have a history of fibrocystic breast problems. While it was quiet for many years this past december I had to have 4 cysts aspirated which they said was most likely related to peri changes.

If anyone has any advice or experience I would love to hear!
