Vagafem and sex

hi ladies,

Hope someone out there can answer a question for me. I recently went to see my gyn for a problem i have been having for many months and was embarressed to ask about. The problem is not having any feeling in the vaginal area when my husband and I have sex. I also experience pain in my vagina after I stand for long periods of time and also sometimes just anyway (not standing for long periods of time).

I have not had period for four years so he said it was due to lack of hormones and that I was dry (that I already knew). He prescribed Vagafem tab. to be inserted in the vagina daily for 2 weeks and then every 2 days there after.

My question is if it is ok to have oral sex when using this. My husband is really into oral as part of fore play and I am concerned it might be harmful to him.

Any knowledge in this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks MK

Re: Vagafem and sex

MKMaggie,

I am assuming that the Vagifem contains estrogen. It would not be a good idea to let your husband come into contact with it. My suggestion is to establish a particular time of day for sex (only mornings or only evenings or whatever works for you), and use the Vagifem afterwards, when you go to the toilet to urinate and clean up. This way you can keep to a regular schedule of using the Vagifem approximately every 24 hours, but not deny yourself (and your sweetie) the pleasure of, well, pleasure.

Re: Vagafem and sex

Rheanna,

Thank you for responding back I do so appreciate it Well I do insert it at night when I go to bed, but wouldn't it still be there in the morning and early evening if it is suppose to last for 24 hours? I just don't see when it would not be there for us to do this. It is a 25mg tablet. Are you saying that it would not be as strong right before it was time to insert it again?

I was rather annoyed that when I filled the initial prescription there was not a paper of all that ingredient and usage information included. It was just all the packaged plungers stuffed in an envelope that looked like it came from the greeting card department. I tried to research it on the internet and have come up with nothing, of course it could be my research skills. I can't believe I would be the only person to think of this or many be we are the only ones that do oral.

Any further advise would be great even it is on how to research the subject.
I won't call and ask the doctor because I was really reluctant to go see him at all. It seems the older I get the more I hate to go to see him let alone tell him and ask him about sensitive things. He is super nice and has taken very good care of me for years it is just me.

Thanks MK

Re: Vagafem and sex

MKMaggie,

No, you are not the only one who enjoys oral sex.

I would assume that about 22 hours after you last inserted one, the vast majority of it would be used up. I use a similar product (a prescription cream product here in Germany), and while I don't use mine every day, I make the executive decision (= that's a decision based on "because I need to have a life instead of debating the issue to death") that by 20 or 22 hours later it's safe enough for my husband to participate in the fun and activities in the vicinity.

Just my opinion. I couldn't find any info on the topic either. Perhaps a phone call or visit to a pharmacist might give you some more professional advice. You don't need to go into too much detail -- perhaps just phrase it generally, asking how long after insertion would it be safe for a male to be exposed to it. They've heard it all, I'm sure, and won't make any judgements or comments.

Re: Vagafem and sex

I am about to use vagifem for discomfort in that area and declining hormones. I was getting a lot of UTI's and I'm hoping this will help. Does it stregthen things up and stop the pain? I'm hoping this will alleviate all the bladder problems I'm having too. Anyone know? I'm only using it once a week because I'm in peri and not full menopause.
