Internal Trembling and Menopause

Need some reassurance as I have been feeling awful lately and I think it is menopause. I am 51 and still get my periods however they are changing somewhat. I have some hot feelings but not flash like symptoms. The strangest thing that has occured most recently is this internal trembling feeling that first started at night but now is fairly constant throughout the day. It is bearable during the day but it is awful at night. At first I thought it was my heart but its not. If I put my hand on my diaphragm area you can feel the mild shaking all the time. It has progressed over the last few weeks into a constant internal sensation. I feel awful upon wakening (and every time I wake up throughout the night)and in the morning I am having anxiety attacks over this feeling. I am fearful that I have some awful disease etc and so I freak. This coupled with the muscles aches and spasms and the peculiar itchy crawly feeling under my skin has me freaking out a bit! I did see some earlier posts about this sensation but guess I am hoping that someone else has experienced it and can lend some advice.

Re: Internal Trembling and Menopause

Hi suzie3cap - I have been suffering with the internal tremors for almost a year now. I am 48 years old and I had a hysterectomy when I was 32, so have been suffering with hot flushes all these years. But since last March I have been having these internal tremors which I have mostly during the day. when I go to bed at night I have them but when I fall asleep they go away. They are worse for me during the day. When you sit on the toilet seat can you feel the tremor? I can feel it more on my left side. They are awful, and my specialist told me that its pretty common during menopause. I am taking Remifemin, a natural HRT product and it has helped me. You should get a blood test done to check if you are peri menopausal. Hang in there, Jenny

Re: Internal Trembling and Menopause

Thanks for the response. It helps to have other women acknowledge and support you especially during these difficult times. I feel the tremors almost all the times...far less during the day though. I am trying some natural remedies as well..but haven't done so long enough to report any change...but I will keep you posted. Still hoping others will share as this symptom is a bit less common and so its still scary! WOndering if anyone has found something that lessens them in some way! Or anyone who has a doctor who can explain the reason for them! Thanks!

Re: Internal Trembling and Menopause

Hi suzie3cap,

Yes, absolutely! These internal tremors are definitely a menopause thing - I get them loads and have done for quite some time. If you look back through the posts you will see lots of us ladies have this, some call it the "jitters", others "tremors", me I call it internal shaking - like as if someone is operating a drill in my insides! They can make you feel like you're a nervous wreck, but just remember they are only a symptom. One lady posted that her doctor was absolutely baffled as to why they occur in the menopause, but they just do - I guess the professionals don't even know!

They do not bother me at all now. I've had them so much, I just get on with it, and I can assure you that you will also in time!
Keep posting.
Pud

Re: Internal Trembling and Menopause

I am 47 and get these internal shaking daily. For me they are horrible and I believe they are peri and anxiety related. I had my hormones checked and not in menopause, and its not my thyroid.

I take small amounts of ativan, and it helps. I get them worse somedays. I also get the adrenaline rush feeling every morning around 4:30 or 5am when I seem to wake up and can't fall back asleep. That is like a wave going thru my body. I get it during the day sometimes as well. I am also very tired, and asleep practically by 8pm.

I also have lost my appetite and have the chills alot.

I had this for a few months in 2003 and 2004 and most of it went away (left with some internal shaking), but its back now with a vengance. I also had vertigo in December and have an ill daughter, which adds to my anxiety at the moment

By the way, before 2003, I was a very laid back relaxed person who never has anxiety or depression.

Re: Internal Trembling and Menopause

Can't tell you how you all are helping me cope. I was so scared that it was some horrible thing along with my other peri-meno symptoms. I also have a child with an illness and the stress of my last ten years has been immense...so I guess it all adds up. Do you ever fell a muscle fatigue with the trembling or a muscle spasm or twinge on some muscle area that seems intense for a few seconds. etc. I am truly trying to stay calm and get on with things...I really am trying. Any supplements or herbal cures that you all have to offer I am game to listen and try. Thanks so much!

Re: Internal Trembling and Menopause

Hi Ladies...
Just to add to the list of "what you call yours" (LOL)....Mine, I call...VIBRATION....there was a time where I felt it move like an electric current--when that happened it was so bad...I can't see or feel mine though---they are so internal...
i wanted to mention that originally my gyno recommended Remifemin--I took it for quite a while with no results...to my recollection all it is really is black cohosh and not a type of HRT as stated in another post--correct me if I am wrong--I no longer have the bottle...and in recent times they are debating whether black cohosh does anything at all...but I say whatever helps--and if helps one it's one less writing here and feeling better!-which is the GOAL right???....
have a good day---good as possible!

Dear Suzie, I Am Sorry To Hear Of Your Symptoms...we Had A List Posted Once And Out Of 35 Symptoms I Had 33 At Least....it Would Be Comforting If You Searched Into Some Older Postings And You Will See How "normal" Your Symptoms Actually Are.....as For The Internal Shaking, It Is My Most Challenging Symptom....very Frightening At First, I Adapted After Finding This Board And Just How Many Other Women Have It Also....mine Came On Gradually For The Past Year It Was Strong At Times. I Started Taking A Good Quality Womens Multi ,increased Soy...also Take A Flax, Boragefish Oil Combo...after Apx 2 Weeks Everything Diminished Drastically Thats Been Apx 4 Mths Now....remember It Is Not So Uncommon,,doctors Dont Talk About It ,stay Calm..i Used To Go In My Car And Drive With The Radio...it Was Very Calming...i Too Had It All Night Long....i Still Feel It Around My Period Time But Very Mildly...no Longer Worries Me Definetly Hormones Won't Kill You So Dont Panic......my Periods Are Totally Diminished, I Dont Really Get Anymore Reg. Periods Just Light Spotting If Anything...i Am 45...stay Calm It Does Get Better....hope I Was Of Some Help......pam

Re: Internal Trembling and Menopause

Pam...thanks so much...I'll try the combination that you suggest and keep my fingers crossed. I am taking the extra soy so I will try your other suggestions. I am taking Vitex and estroven to see if they help. I am taking some xanax occasionally and really trying to get some good sleep...which is really hard...so sometimes I alternate and I take a xanax or an allergy med so I get sleepy...I havent slept well for over a year now but these seem to help some. I am also firmly committed to the exercise which i think will help as well. I just pray that other symptoms dont rear their ugly head...and that I can get a handle on this! Im originally from NJ and am there all the time...love Long Island...glad I found a kindred spirit! Thanks again!

Re: Internal Trembling and Menopause

You ladies are scaring me! LOL! ha! About the tremoring thing that is. I haven't had that.. well not that I know of but I have darn body twitches all over that drive me crazy! I am going to a neurologist to have this all checked out in a couple of weeks. But I have all the other things going on, on the perimenopausal list. This whole thing stinks! I have even been to the ER in the middle of the night with an anxiety attack. It was so frightening! I hope I live through this MISERABLE time in my life, and it is miserable because I am not me that is for sure! I am so glad we have each other to talk to!!

Re: Internal Trembling and Menopause

Try not to do the over-worry thing...I found that was precisely what would make me have an anxiety attack. I am trying to go with the thought that my body really will let me know if we have a situation going on that demands more attention...and by doing that I have lessened the anxiety or panic attacks. I now try to rethink how I will approach this...and follow the advice of PAM on this thread...hormones will not kill you...so try to stay calm. It will pass..or some of the symptoms will subside...or you may gain others...guess our only option is to focus on how we deal with the issues...and staying calm can only help us muddle through...! Hang in there...and lets keep talking!

Re: Internal Trembling and Menopause

Well said suzie3cap, i myself used to worry constantly and this of cause brought on an anxiety attack, now i find myself sitting down taking deep breaths trying to calm myself, and when i think about it i realise it IS just my hormones playing havoc with my body and it soon passes and i avoid the dreaded anxiety attack, i try hard not to worry over silly little things anymore because this also makes thing a lot worse, this will all pass i KNOW it will but how long it will be, who knows, all i know is that it will some day and then we will all look back and wonder what all the fuss was about, well i hope we will anyway

Re: Internal Trembling and Menopause

I wish it was that easy for me to control. When I get the bad internal shaking, its not easy to get rid of. Also when I get the adrenaline rushes when I wake up at 4:30 and can't get back to sleep its not fun. How I hate this.

I to try to relax, take a deep breath etc. I just want it to go away and have a half normal life.

Re: Internal Trembling and Menopause

How about trying exercise when you get the internal shaking real bad? Have you tried that...maybe the motion of that might ease the anxiety of the other. I think a good thing might be for us to keep a journal and log when we get the feelings and the various methods we are trying and then try to monitor what works best and when. It seems that you could be all over the place with these symtoms and remedies unless we keep some type of journal. I have been trying to do that and I hope that it can help. And I have to tell you...you are so right that other things dont seem to be bothering me so much...when you have real worries...the stupid stuff fades away. My husband has been a dream...I lean on him, snuggle with him...share with him...and he has come through like a real trooper. I think he really feels good that he can help me in this difficult time. Look...walking together has many benefits including destracting our anxious minds, getting in better shape, losing that awful weight and renewing our energy levels...not to mention good bonding time with the husband...why do u think you see so many middle age women out walking with their husbands...I am almost tempting to start some kind of peri-meno hand sign so we can acknowledge one another...I think thats what most of us are trying to do! Oh well...hang in there and let's keep talking!
