I'm only 38, menopause already? - Menopause Message Board

Hey all,

I don't know if any of you can help me to figure this out...my dh and I have been trying to get pregnant for years, I was told that I was in peri-menopause by my doctor based on my hormone levels while trying to concieve. But I've ALWAYS been completely regular with my cycle, every 28 days exactly. So this month, my period is five days late so far, and I've been really tired and moody, and nautious. I took a pregnancy test and it's negative, and I've been told that I'm infertile, so that seems unlikely....

Does your period just not show up one day and that's it, your in menopause? I don't have hot flashes or any of that....

First let me say I am sorry that you have been unable to become pregnant. I am sure that makes things hard to deal with. 38 is not to young to begin the menopause roller coaster but hormone levels are a really a hard thing to actually test reliably. A women's hormone can change from minute to minute. Yes one of the first signs is the change in your period, once you go without a period for 1 year you are officially in menopause, until then it is peri menopause. Either has it's up's and down's and some women never do have the hot flashes and night sweats so hopefully you will be among that group. So keep posting and reading other posts here, they have been such a huge help to get me through some tough days. Take care,

also, for some ladies the symptoms only begin once the periods have stopped. as i c hot says though, you may be one of the lucky ones and not have any symptoms at all - fingers crossed!

Hi Lily, sorry your so young to have to be dealing with this. I was 28 when I was 'menopausal'.
In fact we had to stop 'trying' to conceive through I.V.F when I was 25, as despite truck loads of fertility drugs, my body just refused to play ball

I was also further informed that due to my hormone levels I was going to find it extremly 'hard' to conceive. It was apparent that despite all the fertility drugs, I just wasn't producing the eggs. Oh to be a chicken

Incidently there was a lady who was around 50 who was undertaking I.V.F at the same time as me, and who produced substantially more viable eggs. Absolute bummer. She was twice my age. Oh well at least she looked it

I'm taking it that you have not been able to have children?
I was always very 'regular' prior to my body's rebellion. I did experience hot flashes, and night sweats, and if memory serves me correctly my periods just stopped with the occassional curve ball into months

hey everyone,

You're all so nice to try and help me out, my "aunt flow" did finally decide to show up shortly after my last post, but my laptop was on the fritz so I couldn't post an update. I had no idea that you could enter menopause in your twenties, that's amazing!
I have been blessed with two beautiful, healthy children, I can't even begin to imagine the longing and pain it must be for women who want kids, and can't have them at all. My son is almost 16 already, and I didn't fully appreciate the experience of having him when I was so young, and I was working and busy, and now I feel so guilty that I spent so much time away from him when he was a baby. He's turned out great so far, so I know it's my issue and not his. I just wanted another chance at motherhood now that I'm old enough, and financially stable enough to stay at home and enjoy the experience fully.
Oh well, I guess I officially no longer have a regular cycle, the beginning of the end as they say....
