Thumbs down Got prozac now. Fed up with all the messing about!!!!

Hi Ladies,
Well, today my doctor has prescribed Prozac for me. He said for now I can take it with my current anti-depressants, a tricyclic (the ones which stopped working when I hit the menopause), though I will wean off them eventually and hopefully just have to take the Prozac.
Has anyone had any success with Prozac? I hope it's different from the other SSRIs I tried, which increased my anxiety, though I do understand now you have to persevere with this at first and try to ride it through, and that they can take a long time to work.
A friend says she believes Prozac is a fast working and very effective drug for depression and anxiety, and I must admit I know it's worked well for others who take it.
Another little question. Do any of you absolutely hate being in the house, especially with not much to do? I have to get out and about, in company and doing something as soon as possible. I seem to be pretty much okay when I do this, but as soon as I'm back in the house again, that's it! Even if I've got lots of housework to do, I still hate it. I only work part time, would like to do full time, but my girls will be home from uni soon and I don't think I could keep up with all the extra work, especially with all the horrible meno symptoms. Not sure which would be worse, lol
Good luck to you all.
Pud

Re: Got prozac now. Fed up with all the messing about!!!!

Dear Pud....i Hope The Prozac Gives You Some Relief, I Heard That It Workd Quickly But Have Not Had A Personal Experience With It, I Have, However Felt Exactly As You Are...abput Not Wanting To Be In The House. I Think For Myself, It Was More About Not Wanting To Be Alone And Being Home I Was Alone Alot At That Time...i Would Dread Pulling Up To My Place Knowing I Was Alone For Some Time...i Felt Desolate, Alone, Unsafe......i Went Through This For Several Months Then It Disappeared......for Those Of Us That Have Experienced Many Weird And Frightening Feelings And Symptoms, This Would Not Be Hard To Understand That You Are Going Through This.......i Made Myself Watch Some Funny Tv With Lights On And Talked Alot To Myself...after A While I Didnt Feel So Uneasy...it Gets Better But If You Let It Overtake You It Will Give You More Anxiety....you Dont Want That.......the Feeling Comes From Fear Of The Unknown...i Would Repeat To Myself That I Was In Charge Of My Well Being And That I Was Not Allowing Anything To Push Me Over The Edge.....empower Yourself.....hope This Was Helpful....pammcat

Re: Got prozac now. Fed up with all the messing about!!!!

hello denyor. if it's you who is grieving, then i am so very sorry and offer you my sincere condolences. having been in that place very recently myself i know what a black hole it can be.
i believe that depression is all part and parcel of grief, and is a natural stage that needs to be worked through, along with anger, sadness, regret and all the other emotions which surface at this time. sometimes however, grief can trigger clinical depression which goes on far beyond what would normally be expected, and in those cases antidepressants would be helpful. as to what the 'normal' time for this is, it varies from person to person.
i would think the best thing is to see the doctor as they would have a better idea of whether or not grief has turned into something that needs treating with medication. grief itself has no cure except time, but time does definately help heal it.
crying and feeling deeply sad are all a very, very natural part of grief and nothing to be ashamed of or worried about. better to express your grief than bottle it up and have it cause major problems later on.
best wishes to you.
sue

Re: Got prozac now. Fed up with all the messing about!!!!

Hi everyone,
Well, I feel pretty lousy today. I have only taken 2 doses of the prozac, am also back on hrt and while taking these am weaning myself off the other drugs I had, so my system, I guess is pretty much messed up. The tremors are pretty bad and the anxiety and a bit of depression, but I'm relieved to say that so far the prozac doesn't seem to be causing any excess anxiety like the other SSRIs I tried did.
I do feel a bit of a mess. Am trying to keep going, am taking part in a quiz tonight with a group of friends, working tomorrow, and have a church day out on Bank Holiday Monday, so that will be getting me out and about. Trying my hardest to conquer this being in the house business, but it is hard when the feelings are so strong.
Thanks for your encouragement everyone. Hope you're all getting on okay.
Love,
Pud
