Early Menopause-Help any advice

I was diagnosed with early menopause last year and was totally devastated. I don't want to go on HRT and I didn't expect to deal with this at this stage in my life. It came as a result of stresses which started six years ago through bereavement and many other issues, then my periods stopped completely two years ago. Is there anything I can do to kick-start my hormonal cycle cos I've been told it has shut down completely.

Re: Early Menopause-Help any advice

koxy,

I don't have any advice on how to "kick-start" your hormones again, other than perhaps to check out the folks on the Hormone Problems Board. They might be able to advise on some tests that you could ask your doctor to make, to see what's going on with your body. I'm not knowledgeable on such matters, but perhaps it's something like an adrenal problem or thyroid imbalance or something -- but until a doctor does some thorough tests, there's no way to know.

I notice on your other thread regarding loss of appetite that you said that you had all sorts of tests done. But the only thing that was prescribed for your lack of appetite was vitamins and counseling. May I suggest that you look for another doctor, one who will do more than prescribe vitamins and counseling. Getting over your grief of losing your brother {{{hugs to you}}} is important. But I don't think that it's what's causing a lack of periods and appetite.

Good luck in tracking down what's going on.

Re: Early Menopause-Help any advice

hello koxy. how old are you? and what's your doctor advised for you? my periods stopped for a year when i lost my mum, i was 45 and this was 10 years ago. looking back, it was the start of menopause/peri menopause for me, because even though my periods did start again, my whole cycle was different and i just put it all down to the stress of bereavement. i lost a lot of weight at the time too, very quickly, which of course all has an effect on menstruation.
if you're having a very early menopause, then perhaps you need to have a chat with your doctor about how to protect your heart and bones, amongst other things.
