I have been lurking here for a couple of years - may have posted once or twice, but I have gotten so much help from just reading!
Anyway, I am 46 and my periods are still pretty regular. I skipped 2 last year and thought I was done, but then they came back and are still okay. Some months very heavy, some not - but I can handle that part.
However, I seem to have all the other symptoms of peri! What seems to be bothering me the most right now is the fatigue! I am an active person with 2 teenagers and we are on the go. But, this week I have felt like I couldn't get any relief from this fatigue - even when I am lying down! My arms and legs feel so weak, tired and heavy! (now - I AM heavy - about 50 pounds overweight and with blood pressure issues - but saw doc this week and all that is doing okay).
But this weak feeling is killing me and I think my husband thinks I'm dying or something - cause I'm usually go, go, go. Now I dread just putting a load of clothes in the wash! Help! Thanks for letting me vent!
What you are experiencing is not peri, in my opinion, and I would assume that since you have been seeing a doctor, you have no thryroid issues.
If you are taking medication for blood pressure, I would suggest you do some reading about the side effects of that medication because your symptoms are typical side effects of a med, especially a blood pressure med...a good place to start would be the high/low blood pressure boards.
Of course there are other conditions that cause your symptoms, but if it were me, that would be the first place to start.
This might seem too simple, but both my parents are on high blood pressure meds, and because they usually involve dieretics, they would get week and tired. I suggested they take potasium or eat a banana or two a day and they would almost instantly feel better. The dieretics can depleat your potasium. If you take potasium supplements though, check with your doctor to make sure you're taking the right amount. Hope you feel better.

Warmbreeze,
While it may seem simple to you, the docs have a hard time figuring this one out....I was physically and mentally crippled for at least 18 months, and I have to believe it was due to an electrolyte imbalance caused by my 50 mg of hydrochlorothiazide...both my GP and my sleep specialist denied the problem was due to my meds...but off meds, no problems (that is once I got my electrolytes back in balance).
I had the fatigue syndrome really bad during perimenopause and menopause. Even though you stillhave your period does not mean you will not feel symptoms. I had a complete breakdown with my period when I went into perimenopause. It was just horrible. I was put on prozac which did help alleviate hot flashes and help my mentality. But it wasn't enough so now on natural estrogen and progesterone. It does get better but sorry to say, the fatigue stays with u for some time and it's due to losing progesterone first and then gradual estrogen. I was 45 when this all took place. I am not close to 50. It does get better, should say manageable.
