birth control pills and menopause
I have been on low dose birth control (Aviane) for about four years. I am 50. My doctor says I could've gone through menopause and not known it. I don't want to stop the pill as I need it to keep the monthly pain away.
Should I keep getting my fsh levels tested, and what number would make me try and see if I should go off the pill?

Do you need to be off the pill for awhile to get a correct reading.. My doctor said that i need to be off the pill 6 weeks before testing hormones. I'm 49 and i'm on the pill also. I don't have too many menopausal symptoms but i would like to know if i am in menopause and the pill is just hiding the symptoms.

It could very well be hiding symptoms, which would hit you once you quit the pill. I get tested on the empty week, wherein you don't take the pills. The sixth day off is the best, and it seems to work. My last test was 30.
