I am in peri-menopause. I have have started getting some symptons, foggie head, anxiety, sleeplessness....... I am hearing that the Bioidenticals is the way to go. Does anyone have some experience with this?
Welcome faymore, I have not tried the bioidenticals, but I would try finding some natural supplements to try first. Some women do great on OTC supplements. You do need to try for a few months at a time though as it can take awhile for some of them to really kick in. But many women like the bioidenticals, I just don't have a pharmacy near me that does that so I never tried. Most of the time you need to have them adjust it a few times to get it just right, but most everything is like that, lol. Take care,
Julie
I just watched the Oprah show on bioidenticals - they 're having another in 2 wks. I think any way I just got the book The wisdom of menopause by Dr. Christine Northrup which talks alot about supplements , etc. You may want to read it - it has lots of info! G
I am taking Vivelle .025mg patch, 2 patches twice a week, and Prometrium every three months for 10 days. LIFESAVERS! I had the gamut of perimenopause symptoms and more - night sweats, insomnia, ringing in ears, dizziness and balance issues, fogginess or inability to concentrate, anxiety and even panic attacks, tingly fingertips, blood pressure spikes. All of these were eliminated or reduced when I went on HRT. I was able to stop take my meds that I was taking to sleep at night. I was able to stop taking anxiety meds. Hallelujah! It will be 1 year on HRT next month, and I cannot imagine what it would have been like without it!
I hear the price and trying to find a doctor to issue them is very cost prohibitive. My doctor immediately gave me Parimen (I think that is what it is, I can't read her writing) Didn't fill it as I didn't want to be on HRT for 10 years.
I have been reading Suzanne Sommers book on bioidentical hormones. The first step is to get a blood test done on all of your hormones. You need to be informed of what levels you have now. They begin treatment right away. I will begin on them next month once I get results on a pap smear. I am hopeful they will work as I have been diagnosed with premenopause and my estrogen and progesteron are extremely low.
