Feeling awful!!!!!

Don't know if anyone else experienced this but I have not had a period for 2 1/2 years. Have had terrible menopause symptoms all the way through. However, apart from the hot flushes was feeling better. However a month ago I had like period feelings and a little staining. Now a month later, starting yesterday I have awful headaches, lower abdomen, at the sides, not bad pain but you know that feeling where you are either going to get a period or you are getting the flu. I am very tearful. Really worried as I thought I would be over all this by now. Would like to know what to do or if anyone else experienced this please. Thank you.

Re: Feeling awful!!!!!

I too have the same issues. I have not had a period in 3 mos though. However, the hot flashes lack of sleep are now accompanied by depression, lack of concentration, serious memory issue. I have to ask someone "what's her her name again"......and finally the flu like symptoms. MY KIDNEYS ARE on fire, shortness of breath and just general malaise like the flu. I tried all the natural stuff from my local vitamin store but the FEM SUPPORT they gave me makes me viloently ill so I just end up taking 3 Tylenol in the AM, and Ambien to help me get my four hours. I haven't slept over four hours in over 8 mos. It it starting to weigh very heavily upon me. I never want to do anything anymore. I never want to go to the grocery store, clean, go out nothing............I can only hope that I will either get used to it or find something that will work. I am sorry you are feeling so poorly also.

Re: Feeling awful!!!!!

Hi, I'm new here, I came on for the very reason you have given, feeling terrible all the time, tired, weepy, and loss of interest in anything. I just want to veg out in front of the TV with my dog on my knee And if I do I usually fall asleep! I have been to my Dr. but he says its my busy lifestyle. I feel as if I'm not doing 1/2 the things I used to do.
I'm sorry that you are feeling bad too. Anyone any idea how long this lasts?

Re: Feeling awful!!!!!

Tulipe, your doc's an idiot. You have these symptoms b/c you're going thru mnps, not b/c you're 'too busy' (I'm surprised he didn't say it's all in yr head). Hormones are actual substances that have various physical effects on us.

Basketcase: Have you been to yr gyno yet? A friend of mine had the same thing -- hadn't had a pd in yrs, then started gushing. it turned out she had an ovarian cyst (or fibroid?) and had a D+C to take care of it.

Re: Feeling awful!!!!!

Hello ladies,

I agree with Diane999, your doctors are idiots if they refuse to treat you because they think that this is normal. Your hormonal balance is important is the quicker these moronic physicians begin to realize that this is a problem, the better off we will all be.

Basketcase, have you had your hormones checked ? Also, if you are having spotting after over 2 years of not having your period, an endometrial biopsy is in order. This is done in a doctor's office and is very fast (take a couple of Advil about an hour before the exam to avoid cramping). If you keep on spotting then a D & C is warranted and this usually takes care of the problem. If your doctor recommends a D & C right away then you might as well forget the biopsy as they will look at the tissue from the D & C.

As for your symptoms, there are a variety of options you can choose. I recommend you pick up a copy of Dr. Christiane Northrup's "The Wisdom of Menopause" which outlines a variety of options that are open to you. Some of these include hormonal supplements, natural supplements, certain vitamins and even foods that you can cut out and other you can add which may help you.

Don't let anyone tell you that this condition is your fault (ie. due to your busy schedule or to your "oversensitivity" to things etc.. all bull). You know when things are not normal and anyone that tries to talk you out of it does not deserve to be treating you.

I hope you manage to resolve this soon. All of you need your regenerative sleep so work to make yourselves better. I am not yet in menopause but I have recently gone through some gynecological problems which has forced me to do some serious research on women's bodies as they mature. I know that when the time comes and I begin to experience symptoms (if that happens) I am definitely not going to let ANYONE tell me that everything is normal and to simply accept it. I personally have made the choice not to go on hormones (although depending upon the severity of my symptoms I may change my mind) but I now know that I have many options open to me that I can try.

Best of luck to you all.

Estria

Re: Feeling awful!!!!!

Your "Feeling Awful" heading caught my eye as that is just how I am feeling today. I am 51yrs and have meno symptoms with a good few years. I do have a lot of good times but since Oct last when I got my period after about 11 mths I have alot of bad days. Today, just out of nowhere I got a fuzzy/lightedheaded head, my eyes got so tired, feels like almost every ounce of energy has left my body, weak jelly legs, weird feeling up near my throat - sorta heart beats etc. - i just feel awful. I'm afraid in case i pass out or something. OF COURSE MY MIND GOES INTO OVERTIME - WONDERING IS THIS REALLY MENOPAUSE?
What do you folk think - is it really or should i be worried.

Re: Feeling awful!!!!!

Very much appreciate Estria's post. I've been through hell with menopause as so many of us here. And I've so much encountered the attitude of --it's a "natural" process and don't make a big deal of it. Absolutely maddening!! Presently, it's been months since I've had a decent night of sleep (night sweats, hot flashes, etc.). Every area of my life is affected. I'm getting Northrupp's book and taking this bull by the horns. Enough of this bologne, grin and bear it. Right. If men went through menopause, the problem would have been solved eons ago. Sorry, gotta vent a little.

alwaysaworrier, I'm not a doctor, but if it helps, I can tell you that my experience of menopause has included all the things you wrote about.

Re: Feeling awful!!!!!

Hi Diane9999,
Dr did do a lot of tests to rule out thyroid and diabetes, checked blood pressure etc I had a good checkup. He does know that I often have 12-14hr days working on the farm and was trying to tell me to slow down ( he's been saying that for years!).
I tried HRT 2 years ago and it made me really ill. I have tried herb remedies, no good cramps and sick. Trying to have a few hrs to myself middle of day has helped a bit.
I think coming on here and realising that others have similar probs has helped. Feeling alone can be the worst.
As my mother used to say 'a problem shared is a problem halved'
Thanks for replies and advice it has helped to share.

I've been going through this for 6 long years and when you find a solution to one symptom it's something else and the root cause of every single one of them is hormonal imbalance and when the doctors tell you it's normal to feel this way at "your"age I feel like strangling them. I've seen gynecologists, endocrinologists, homeopaths. On Monday I have an appointment with a naturopathic doctor. I've been on bioidentical progesterone since February and am feeling better, let's see what the naturopathic doc. has to say. He's supposed to be a specialist in hormones. Will keep you all posted!

Re: Feeling awful!!!!!

Today has been awful for me as well as yesterday. It's like wham out of no where I have all the symptoms. They come like waves throughout the month depending what day it is. I am logging it on a chart for the Naturalpath Pharmacist who will be calling soon with me hormone test results. I am so sick of dealing with this and I am just 44 for there are many years to go.

Today I am tired, low body temp of 97.7 (I am on meds for hypothyroidism and its under control) fuzzy thinking, I woke up not being able to speak articulate like I usually do, disjointed thoughts, achiness, IBS for the past two days, almost feels like I am getting the flu, (but I don't think so) I have itchy skin and the base of my scalp always itches, and the weird thing is I have muscle twitching going on.The last time I had this I was on Sudefed and it was doing that. My neurologist had me go off of that and then went away. Now the twitches are back in my legs, arms and eye lids. Do any of you have that? Or could it be that I was on IBUPROFEN 800 for a week around the clock for my vericose vein surgery and those drugs haven't left my system? Can pain killers cause muscle twitching? This is driving me nuts. I had neurology testing and they didn't find anything wrong. Is this perimenopause?? I am just delirious ladies. I never knew perimenopause could be so debilitating.

Somedays I don't want to get out of bed. Just like some of you have mentioned. It takes everything in me to hold down a job and not complain about the symptoms. I do have panic and anxiety disorder and it really flares up for days at a time with the dip in my hormones. Grrrrrh!

Thanks for listening! I just don't know what to do. I just take it a day at a time. Hugs to you all!

Re: Feeling awful!!!!!

I have spent days reviewing this board, absorbing the wealth of information from all you ladies...it has helped so much knowing that all the weird feelings I'm having off and on are shared by so many. Fünny... My mother never prepared me for this! Now I realize that some of the things I was feeling and chalking up to ... Oh I must be getting the flu or something was actually early symtoms. My sister and I always called our periods "George"... No idea why... Just George coming to town always sounded better. Now facing this... I have said goodbye to George and hello to Dracula...that seems fitting since it is sucking the life out of me. No offense to anyone... But now I am certain that God is a dude...no female greater being would have saddled us with this. Keep posting ladies... It's keeping me sane. Thanks!!

Re: Feeling awful!!!!!

Dracula is right! There is nothing sweet of funny or kind lol about peri and menopause. It's a trip to hell if you ask me. My mom didn't remember hers being so bad. I said to her ya! You had HRT for quite some time...so ya didn't FEEL the real feelings of this. Today I just cried and cried over the littliest things. My sister who is 9 years younger is saying cruel things to me, like I am always crying wolf about health issues and no one will believe me. I am so angry with her today! I can't wait for her to begin perimenopause and I will get the eating crow phone call from her...saying I am so sorry I didn't understand you. ha!

I have always believed you, TEdds83...but as you know, I don't believe peri and menopause are causing your problems. But, yes, I very, very much believe you.
