A very nasty rash...
Someone I know experienced a very nasty rash, fever, cough, and loss of appetite which occurred over a period of several weeks. It was so severe that she went in to see her primary doc who happened to be a distinguished obgyn (respected and admired by his peers, on the forefront of the latest research, and receptive and sensitive to the insights of his patients). Despite his credentials, his experience, and his continuing ed, this physician admitted he didn't have a clue to what was causing my friend's problems. But within minutes of her consult, my friend knew what was wrong. The physicians assistant, who was of childbearing age and had young children, immediately recognized the symptoms of red measles...which older women USUALLY don't get.
How is this related to menopause??? Even the best doctors/specialists don't know everything...especially, if "everything" is outside their field. If we look at our problems without looking outside the box, we will not find the answers.
Sleep problems, hot flashes, thyroid problems, fatigue, irregular periods, yeast and uti's, stomach and bowel problems, etc can all be caused by something other than female hormones!! If our family docs/obgyns/endocrinologists are treating our symptoms but we are not "cured", it is time to look elsewhere.
