Question What is going on?

Help...I will be 40 in July and feel as though maybe I'm going thru my change already...I think it's a little early but some strange things have been going on...I get hot flashes a couple times a week...only at night...my face is out of control...I have more breakouts now than I ever did in my teen life...had to go to a Dermatologist...haha at my age my mood goes up and down...I see my Dr. at the end of the month...should I ask her to test me? I just don't like my face breaking out like it is...this is why I think I'm changing

Hi, Doe !

Well, no one can tell if you are in peri menopause unless you get an FSH test (and they take additional hormone tests, too).

I was 38 and began to see things happening. The opposite happened to me. I stopped getting acne pimples ! I was never full of them, but I could always tell my period was around the corner when I'd get a pimple. Suddenly, that stopped.

I had very minor, infrequent, light hot "blushes" more than "flashes", skipping periods too. The Worst thing (which eventually made me run to a gynecologist) was intermittant nauseau around my period and , really, whenever. When I had one period which was so painful with cramps, I went to one gynecologist who refused to test me for peri-menopause. Nine months later, I had the heaviest and worst bout of nausea and flew to a different gynecologist who tested me for EVERYTHING and I had entered peri-menopause, indeed ! Nine months after that (!) through another blood test, the gyne. announced to me that I am Menopaused. . That was two months ago - I am 43 (three months shy of turning 44).

I think we know. I seriously think we feel it somehow.I realized that the symptoms I had may have been 100 other things, but somehow, I was praying for it to be the change and not anything more serious.Things just felt drastically different, and I had a feeling it was the change.

The gynecologist who refused to test me said that she doesn't test for it until yo skip six periods in a row. The gynecologist who I've had almost a year now said by all means, we must examine all possibilities.

Please post here about any results after your exam and also let us know about your concerns.

Oh, I forgot ~ this may mean something to you or maybe not...From the time I feel I began peri-menopause till the bad symptoms, I was developing weird cysts-under my arms and near the groin-where the lymph nodes are. They were one at a time, but I would run to the dermatologist and they were said to be "nothing" "harmless" and I was advised to keep getting mammograms every year just in case.

Testosterone causes acne and, with me, because I stopped breaking out, my testosterone level must have dropped tremendously. The progesterone change casues nausea((in some women). Many woman on birth control pils either break out or stop breaking out.

40 is definately not to young to start noticing perimenopause symptoms. Go ahead and mention all this to the doc and ask for blood work to confirm this when you see him. Just remember that as you start this process be sure you are getting enough calcium via diet and supplement to help prevent bone loss which can lead to osteoporosis.
