Post Heart Palpitations

Hi, I was just wondering about something, I've been getting heart palpitations for about 10 years now, they started when I was about 31, I am 43 now. I have gone through menopause already, and it was very obvious that my heart palpitations were caused by menopause because they became really bad right before the end of my cycles, and then really diminished greatly after the end. I went from having a PVC every few beats to having one or two a day, so it was an enormous difference. I had a break from these for months, just having few, and then now they are back, just as bad as before. The thing is, I haven't had a period in over 7 months, and I was wondering if you can still get menopause symptoms if you are all done. I don't really get any other symptoms of menopause, except maybe for mood swings. These things really scare me, I had a terrible day today, I was in a store, and they just wouldn't let up. I finally left in tears, and just felt awful, getting all shaky and weak. I know this can also be an anxiety combination, but it's hard to imagine that I could control these PVC's. Anyway, thanks in advance, I was just wondering if anyone had anything similiar. Also, one more thing, this time they seem to act up when I'm up and doing something, even typing like this, but they go away if I lay down, especially on either side. Thanks again!! Val

Hi, Valger.

Although I do not have the answer to your question, I am new here also and want to say hello.

I am ALSO 43 and menopaused.I had noticed palpatations ( I think ) very infrequently while I was in peri-menopause. Just one or two. A couple of months ago, however, it was happening for half a day, a few an hour. Not too badly though. I was able to ignore it. Whenever my heart is checked by doctors, it is fine.

I am not even sure what palpatations are, to be honest with you. I am like that with heartburn, as well. I don't think I ever experienced heartburn. The feelings I think are palpatations feel like a tiny movement in my upper chest, like a thump. Is that what it feels like ?

I sure hope your symptom subsides soon. We never know with these complex bodies, though.

Hi, thanks for the comments! Yes, it kind of feels like a pause, then a hard thump or a flutter, sometimes just a combination of these things. It's very distressing, to say the least!! It really gets in the way of life! Anyway, I've been trying different things that I've read about. First, I'm taking a Calcium/Magnesium and Zinc supplement, and I've been drinking soy milk, and other soy drinks. I've heard these things can be good for going through menopause, and I think that might be what my heart palpitations are from. I just can't be sure, since I've already gone through it, and I haven't had a period in over 7 months, but I heard that you can still have symptoms afterwards. Like, I just had one right now, and it felt like a hard thump up in the top of my chest. Sometimes, I feel it down lower in my chest, there are several different feelings that I get. I know these have been related to menopause, though, becaue I had them sooo bad when I was going through my last cycles (sorry if I'm repeating myself) and then they almost stopped after I was done. I thought I was done with them, though, and here they are back. Anyway, I hope the vitamins and soy help, I am supposed to go for a treadmill test this week. I hope I live through it!! Thanks again, Val

To Valger,
I just went through a horrible day of PVC's. My brillant doctor (I mean that literally) he did an EKG all was OK. He gave me 20mg. of Inderal (propanolol) 2x a day. Morning and evening. It really, really helps. It slows the heart down and causes a relaxation. Has your doctor prescribed this. I read it is the most common medicine for this type of heart palpatation. Let me know.
