Thumbs up Menopause

I have been going through this for about two years,Im 45 now, Thought it was something that was going to put me in an early grave..Went to the doctors for depresstion and they gave me Pacil Cr. Well that did nothing so the put me on Zoloft..then I did some more study.. Im just not a depression kind of person... Im so happy to find out it wasn't really in my brain, But just another one of those tricks nature puts on us..I have been sitting in my house for a year now.. Im normally Very Active.. And I feel like I am 103.. My 83 year young father does more than I do.. Well hopefully now all that will change..they have me on the lowest dose of prempro.. finally after all this time of missing out on life just maybe I can get back to my nutty self .. Well I went to the drug store to get my meds for the first time yesterday.. I Picked my perscription for prempro... I found they had given me a
Senior Citizens discount.
Oh my... here I go!!
Thank you for the board ..
Mary from Vancouver,WA Please read next post..it's me again.. prempro????

I didn't respond because you didn't ask for advise.
You didn't say anything wrong.

Yes, depression can be caused by fluctuations in hormones near menopause. You don't really list any problems besides depression. Are you having period problems, hot flashes and such also? I'm assuming you're still having periods as you mention taking asprin for clotting.

A little more backround on the problems you're having might help. Prempro may or may not help depending on your specific problems. Good that you got the seniors discount thought.

Well I have ALL the symtoms of Menopause except lack of period.. My periods started coming every 3 weeks.. and here as of late I started spotting between periods..also just feeling like I should be in a mental ward!!! I knew something was wrong.. But it took me to figure it out.. When I mentioned it to my Doctor she said "THATS IT".. I thought with the prempro came blood clotting.. So asprin stops that right?? I thought maybe it would help with the worry of blood clotting when your on prempro.. Thank you for your reply..I didn't realize I really had a qestion..

Prempro may be just the thing you need then. It will help with hot flashes, depression, dryness, all the fun stuff. If you periods are getting closer together it's nearly always a lack of progesterone. The hot flashes are caused by lowered estrogen.

As far as the aspirin goes, I'd switch to naproxen sodium. It's brand names are Aleeve or Naprosyn but I get the cheap Walmart generic. Start taking 550mg a day about 2 days before you expect your period (I know it's hard to predict sometimes) and keep taking it until your period is over. It can reduce your bleeding and clotting by more than 50%.

If you find your periods become more irregular or heavy than they were before you started the Prempro, you may only need progesterone and not the estrogen that is in prempro.

Another good alternative to control cycles and bleeding is birth conrol pills. This is what I'm going to try now as I can't seem to get my period to stop. I'm 43.

Good luck to you. Sometimes it takes a good 3-6 months for things to get more stable. Sometimes it takes trying a few different medications to get just the right one. Hang in there. I know it can be very stressful when things aren't under control but try not to worry. You're just going through a natural process that hopefully will be over soon.
