Progesterone cream - Menopause Message Board

Has anybody tried progesterone cream as a substituted for HRTL? I have read a bit about it on the web, and have heard many sing its praises. Bought a jar yesterday and have started using it. I am not even sure that I should but have been having blowtorch episodes (about 40 a day) that are driving me scatty. I am 46, miss about 3 periods a year and logic tells me this could be the 'change'. Please post a note if you know anything about this miracle cream? Thanks!

Hot flashes are caused by fluctuations in estrogen. Some woman do report being helped by progesterone cream though. There was a study done by Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Pathology at St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem, PA that said it helps about 83% of woman after a year. Although the other changes in their bodies could have accounted for the success of the cream.

For control of hot flashes, many women swear by black cohosh as a natural alternative to HRT.

According to Dr. John Lee's book " What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Premenopause", he recommends for your age bracket the following progesterone creme therapy:
for the first day 1 of your period to day 7, no creme
from day 8 to day 20, use 1/8 tsp twice a day ( morning and evening) rotating on either neck, wrists, inside of the knee, and groin area
on day 21 to 28 use 1/4 tsp twice a day, then stop, you should then get your period, if not, wait 7 days and resume the routine.Be sure to shower before, not after using the creme.
Dr. Lee does not recommend the use of estrogens ( black Cohosh or soy isoflavones)
Dr. Uzzi Riess has a very different approach to progesterone creme therapy in his book " Natural Hormone Therapy" , so you might want to check out both books at your local library to decide which theory you want to try.

I also posted something under womens health,,,but since Im here...lol...
Ive been using for 1 1/2 yrs,,with pretty good results,,it has made me more regular,,with less period pain,(I have endo). I buy mine on-line b/c it is easier to find,,but most vitamin health food stores sell it.
I use to use days 6-26,,but have changed to days 12-26 b/c I think im peri-menapausal. My period comes 2 days after stopping the cream.
Go ahead & use it ..if anything, it will only help you.
