Early Menopause - Menopause Message Board

I'm 36 and just discovered I'm in early menopause, I've been on HRT (Estracombi) but it didn't suit, now my gynie has put me on Fosomax. So far its going good but a little worried about any side effects & bad info I've read about it. Can anyone enlighten me.

I have never heard of that particular drug. However, try webmd, you can look up all kinds of drugs and their side effects, or you gcould go to any search engin and try looking it up that way.

hello...may i ask what type of symptoms you were having and exactly how your dr diagnosed you as menopausal?...i'm a year younger than you and i think i may be in the beginning stages of menopause..i have a gyn appt next week to discuss my symptoms with my dr..but i'd like to hear first hand experiences too..my mother went through menopause in her mid thirties so i guess it wouldnt be so unusual for me to be starting this early........thanks in advance for you input..

Hi, My only symptoms that I was getting was not having a monthly bleed (which at the time I was happy about) and occassionaly night sweats, nothing major. It was just that my friend and sister pushed me into getting it checked out as they reckoned correctly that your period just doesn't stop for now reason. So off I trotted to my gp and she suggested doing a blood test to check out all factors. Like over actived thyorid as I had lost alot of weight. My weight loss I just was putting down to been active with my new 1 yr old boy. So bloods went off and came back all fine except for my hormone levels. I next went to a Gynie and he did more blood test and confirmed I was early menopausal. Reading your email it does sound like your very similar to myself. I do hope all goes ok with your appt's - let me know how you get on.

Fosomax is for osteoporosis so unless you have osteoporosis I am not sure why your doc put you on that medication. It is rather expensive and is stictly an osteoporosis medication. If they haven't done a bone density scan yet to see if you have osteoporosis then I have no clue why your doc even prescribed this drug. I would check with your doc if he hasn't tested and diagnosed you with osteoporosis to find out more.
