Talking Is my fatigue peri-menopause or something else?............

I'm hoping you can tell me if this extreme fatigue is part of what to expect from peri-menopause..... I'm almost 46 and I'm just sooooooooo tired all the time. I just have no get up and go. It takes so much energy to just get up in the morning and go to work. Should I attribute this to where I am in life? Or because I'm the mom of teenagers? Or maybe because I'm just getting old and my body wants me to slow down. The thing is, I HAVE slowed down a lot from 3-4 years ago. I love music, and I normally jump at the chance to play my flute whenever and wherever, but lately, even playing my flute gives me little joy, because it takes so much energy. And my eyes burn all the time from being so tired. And I'm in perfect health - I've had two surgeries this year and both pre-op physicals gave me a clean bill of health.... Is this what peri-menopause does? Can I fast forward through the next 6-8 years? Does anyone else experience this extreme fatigue? I just want to sleep...........

I started noticing the fatigue you are describing a couple of years ago but just figured I must be very ill, even though there wasn't anything else going on. Then I read the threads from this board and realized this is a part of this process and I feel much better knowing that when I'm having a 0 energy cycle someone else here is feeling the same thing and it helps. Misery loves company, I guess.

The fatigue for me came from not sleeping very well at night. I didn't remember waking up a lot but I guess I did so I didn't get a good nights sleep. I take an antidepressant to help me sleep. I wake up once a night now and I'm not so tired any more.

Hi Maddux and Cloverberry..thanks for your responses...it is nice to know that perhaps this is indeed part of the phase of life I'm in. And Cloverberry, you might be right on when you mentioned not getting enough sleep. I'm up at least 4 times going to the bathroom every single night, and it's been as many as 8 times. And my husband snores like crazy, too, so he often wakes me up. There are no other beds in our house for me to use, and I have spent many a night on the couch when his snoring is really bad. I do know I could use some really quality sleep!!

Cog,

You sound so much like me. I'm 44, love music, love to dance. Just a year ago, anytime I heard a song I liked,
I was up dancing, didn't matter where I was. Now I just tap my toes, because I don't have the energy. My husband snores too. Drives me bonkers! But thankfully I started driving him crazy (that didn't sound right!), and he sleeps in another room lately. I'm like a fish outa the water at night, flopping around, hot, cold, hot, cold, go to the bathroom....I wake up feeling like I haven't slept in weeks. My Doctor told me that is what starts the anxiety. One symptom leads to another. My Nutritionist pounded me about taking the right vitamins, and wants me to try the Zone Diet, or following the Glycemic Index. She said it the easiest thing I can do to help with all the symptoms naturally. The fatigue is amplified by our blood sugar levels being on a roller coaster. She says during this time in our lives, our whole system is much more delicate than before, and has to be treated that way. I've been on the Zone diet for 2 days so far, so I'm still in the learning stage, but will let you know
if I see a major difference. If you are experiencing the extreme fatigue, you might want to check into it.

Maddux417,

Misery loves company!! Haven't heard that in awhile, but it is PERFECT for the meno board!

Geneva
