Has anyone on this board been diagnosed with Uterine Polyps and what did your doctor do about them? I just was and will not be seeing him till next month. All he told me was that if I were to bleed again to call him and I would then need a D&C with a Hysteroscopy.
I did have an endometrial biopsy which was negative except for the polyp.

I think GYN's approach on our problems depends on where
you live. Research @ library & Net before a Hysterect.
Friend was told uterine polyp. Must have! 2nd opinion
was just D&C. Researched & then had a GYN. do some type
of hot-balloon insert. You're sedated, insert balloon
& then it's filled w/ a liquid, left to slight burn
tissue lining. It's popped, removed, use numb-crm. a
week & ck'd. Statistics show US Dr's do un-needed hyst.
too often. Read, read, read 1st. There was a women Dr.
on Oprah that detailed procedure. Urged for us to get
info, type polyp, where located `exactly', what type
hyster. is to be done. Go in to this w/ knowledge.

2 years ago I started bleeding and wouldn't stop. I had an ultrasound and a biopsy. Doctor said I had
polyp(s). Tried to fix it by changing b/c pills. 1-1/2 yrs went by and I was still bleeding (sometimes severely) so went back to the gyno (not same one but one in the same practice group) and asked him about a hysterectomy. He explained a procedure called a thermochoice (balloon) ablation and I was so excited. No hysterectomy. So this past July I had a hysteroscopy, d&c, ablation and tubal ligation done. When he got inside though he found 2 fibroid tumors. One was removed. So I wonder if those polyps can turn into fibroids. And the recovery time is remarkable. It was a piece of cake surgery. But not everybody is candidate for an ablation. That's something you will need to discuss with your doctor. But don't have a hysterectomy if this is something that will work.

Thank you for replying. My doctor did not suggest a hysterectomy yet? All he said was that if I were to bleed again I would need a D&C with a Hysteroscopy. I did not ask enough questions because I was nervous when he called. I have had only one episode of bleeding which was kind of heavy but I am 55 and did not bleed for over 1 and 1/2 yrs. He said I was post menopausal and would need the biopsy. I had it and apparently he hit the polyp and I started to bleed very heavy after the biopsy which was done in his office. The only thing he said was to call him if I were to bleed again. I have my yearly scheduled with him next month and plan to ask all my questions then. What would you suggest I should ask?

Well, I've had it all - polyps, fibroids, endometriosis. No pain from any of it - only lots of bleeding. Went through all of this once I went off of birth control pills. Seems my whole system went crazy. Alot of these things are fed by our system making too much estrogen. I could not keep going through all of this and the bleeding and progesterone shots got to be too much. Had polyps removed several times, and the fibroids grew outside of the uterus, which causes problems, then the endometriosis took over my ovaries. So, the only thing I was left with was a hysterectomy at age 34. Do I regregret it? Never. Can't imagine where I'd be today if I did not have that surgery. Went on Premarin at age 34, stayed on it until 51. Doctor said now is the time to go off of it, although I never had any problems being on it. In fact, it always made me feel better. I'd go back on it but for now I am seeing how I can do without it. Need to give it a break for a few months. The estrogen in our bodies can cause alot of problems, but without it there can be alot of problems. Since I had a full hysterectomy, no doctor ever suggested going on any other hormone but Premarin (Estrogen), so I am not sure what any other hormones would have done for me.
