Unhappy hair dye

I dyed my hair black but I hated it. Then in the doctors office I read that women over 40 looked better with lighter hair so I found something to remove the color from your hair. I tried it and it turned my hair orange but it said you can color it again right away. I tried to make it a med reddish brown but it didn't work too well. Now I've got a darker orange color to my hair. I went out and bought some more hair dye but I won't try it again for a few weeks. I've got a couple of wigs I'll have to wear when I go out for a few weeks.

Clover Berry, look on the side of the box, usually there is a 1-800 number to call in case of hair color emergency.

I have done some strange things to my hair myself - seems like a silly waste of money to go to the beauty shop when I could do it myself at home. Once when I was much younger, I let my older sister and her room mate frost my hair. They didn't take into consideration that I had fine, thin hair, so big chunks were pulled thru that little bonnett. I looked like a skunk!!!! Ran to the drug store and bought some brown hair dye and it turned a lovely shade of moss green.

When I wore my hair really short I was quite free about changing the color often, it didn't matter because I wasn't going to get frizzy split ends and I would just go and get some more cut off. Now, I wear my hair a little longer and am more careful. One of the things I do to keep it looking a little more natural is when I do the roots, I put heavy conditioner on the longer parts so they won't absord as much color, seems to work for me.

Good luck and let us know what color you become, right now I am Champagne Blonde, the underside looks a little red, but I like it.

Too late about the phone number on the box. I already threw it out. I tried to wear a wig to church but it kept itching me I wanted to take it off and scratch my head but there was too many people there. I guess my hair isn't that bad. It's just the lights in our bathroom shine down directly on the top of my head and really shows the red but outside it wasn't all that noticably. I'm going to try the website for the hair color remover to see if I can ask them about it.

When you "strip" the color from your hair using a bleaching product, a normal application of hair dye won't replace it. I did the same thing myself a few years ago...went blonde, hated it and re-dyed my hair several times trying to get back something resembling my normal hair color. On one trip to the drug store for more dye, the L'oreal rep was there and I was able to explain my problem and get advice.

Here's what you do:
Get two boxes of the color you want. With the first box, take the *color only* (not the white stuff you mix it with, just the color...usually in a little brown bottle) and soak a cotton ball with the color and apply it to your hair. Now take the second box and mix the color and developer as usual, and apply as usual. Leave it on the normal amount of time...and voila...it should end up the color you're going for. It worked for me anyway. Good luck!
