Waking up first thing ... - Menopause Message Board

in the morning. When i awake first thing in the morning my throat alot of the times feels that full feeling right in the back. As i wake up and move around it seems to disappear and or get alot better. Is that another symptom of Globus Hytericus? Anyone else experience this.

Yes, I have - but like so many other symptoms - I didn't even know they were related to menopause until I started reading some of these posts tonight.

I've had several "oh yeah" moments since finding this board tonight.

I didn't know what globus hystericus was until I just went and did a search - but that lump in the throat feeling is horrid. And yes, it's started since - of course - perimenopause.

Yes, mine has done the same thing. There in the morning, gone for awhile, back again. My Dr explained to me about Globus Hystericus, and said if it keeps on bothering me, that he would send me to an ENT, but that it looks & feels totally normal. He also said that if I was going to drive myself crazy worrying about it, that he would schedule me for some tests.

I thought this was interesting...I went to a Reflexologist, and she told me that stress & anxiety show up in the center chest area, (esophagus & throat). It showed up on me of course. She also told me that my Thyroid was fine. If you've been reading some of the other threads, thyroid issues keep coming up with perimenopause. I couldn't believe that this woman could tell so much about what all was going on in my body, just by feeling my feet, but she sure did.
Have you ever been to one?

age 41, 140lbs, 5'8", use to feel healthy & great!...until the krypton...

hmmm...last year when I began my major perimenopausal symptoms (when they just all came headstrong at once), I experienced that lump in the throat when I swallowed. No thyroid prob's per dr., no cold or throat infection stuff going on...just that dern lump that I had for about a week when I awoke...would disappear as the day went on & then it had only lasted about a week. Then I had a short spat of it again which only lasted a couple of days (in another month) & I haven't had it again since...as Charlie Brown says "arrrrgggghhhhh"...just another #&?! thing - isn't it? I want my hormones back!

Thought I'd share with you my experience...I never knew what the dern thing could be, & by the time I began to worry, it "****appeared" as my lil' boy always use to say.
