Anyone taking Lexapro? - Menopause Message Board

I am on Lexapro 10 mg for about 3 weeks now. It has helped tremendously with my moods.

At first it made me tired but now I have too much energy and at night I feel like I have to stretch my legs or get up and walk around.

I am going to stay with the dose I have for a couple more weeks and see if this evens out. If it doesn't maybe my doctor will suggest a lower dose.

Has anyone that has been on Lexapro or other anti-depressants had these side effects?

I was started on lexapro 2 days ago.
My Dr. started me on 10mg. a day.
I am super sensitive to any med. at first, so I took it in my own hands to start out on 5mg. 1/2 a pill.
So far so good. I will go onto the 10mg. in a week.

I have been on Lexapro for a few months now, 10 mg a day. When I first started on it, I had tons of energy, even people I work with noticed! Then after a while my tiredness returned. Mostly in the afternoons, I feel like I can't do the things I need to get done. I am trying to wean myself off of Lexapro because my insurance company will no longer pay the doctor that has prescribed it for me. I need to find a new family doctor, but my insurance just dropped its affiliation with one of the local hospitals, and I have to wait and see which doctors will no longer be available to me. I am presently taking 5 mg a day. I hope to be able to stop completely soon. By the way, I am 50 years old and have some night sweats and they are usually accompanied by headaches. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks for listening, Nancy

Hi nlc

You may need to up the dose of Lexapro not discontinue it especially if you are going through menopause.

Menopause will make you tired. I guess it's the fluctuation in hormones.

Lexapro has made me feel much better mentally (I didn't realize I was feeling that bad until I started taking it).

Maybe you should find a new insurance company instead of a new doctor.

I started on Lexapro (10mg) 4 months ago. I am 50-years old. It has helped me clear my mind and I actually feel that I have more energy, although I can easily take a nap anytime I want to and I will NEVER be a morning person.

I have found my sexual desire has diminished but it's still there sometimes, luckily for my husband.

The most unusual side effect I have had is that my night sweats stopped completely. I was having them several nights a week but haven't had one in 4 months! I might mention that I started a multi-vitamin and a calcium pill at the same time as the Lexapro so maybe one of them did it.

My bowel movements have changed a little also. I have been constipated a few times.

Good luck with Lexapro. I feel like I have my life back. It has evened out my emotions. Not much gets me overly excited (and with two teens, that's a big order...)
