bleeding between periods - perimenopause?

I am worrying myself sick...I'd appreciate some input please. I am a 46 year old woman with no other pre-meopausal symptons. Last month, after sex and on around day 11 or 12 I had spotting (dark blood) which lasted a few hours and then stopped.

This month, it is now around day 12-ish I have had a spotting - but this time it's not so dark and is not after sex.

I am hoping that as it ihas happened again around the same time in my cycle this indicates that it is a hormone issue.........and a pre-memopausal symptom rather than something sinister.

After the first incident I went to the doc and have been referred to the gynae dept at the hosp to see a specialist for a check but that's not till the beginning of January - meanwhile, I am freaking out worried as my friend is being treated for cervical cancer and of course my mind is going beserk thinking that I must have the same.

Can anyone advise if they have had the same and the other causes of this bleeding rather than the more sinister ones (taking into consideration my age).

P.s. - i don't have any other menopausal symptons.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this xx

Re: bleeding between periods - perimenopause?

I had mid cycle spotting after sex several years back (I'm 51 now & in menopause). Doc checked me for uterine cancer...negative....did an ultrasound & found I had a uterine fibroid. Told they don't do anything unless it causes significant symptoms or grows alot. Dealt with that for many years & it eventually stopped happening as I got closer to menopause (doc said it would shrink up at this point). Don't fear the worse (as I did)...could be something pretty insignificant.

Good luck.
