Now Gallstones...

I just got back from a doctors appointment followup from all my routine tests and he matter of factly tells me I have two gallstones like it was nothing. I asked him if they would move or give me problems because I never had any pain. I do get indigestion some times, now I'm wondering if that was it. He didn't give me much information other than I had them. Does anyone here live with gallstones? I don't know much about it.

Mary

Re: Now Gallstones...

Hi Mary!
While I don't have any experience with gallstones (knock of wood; pray), I wanted to suggest that you can look up info on them right here on this website and the internet. I'm surprised your doctor didn't inform you more about them. But then again, not! LOL. Anyway, good luck & prayers for you, ~Karen

Re: Now Gallstones...

Hi! I have been having pains on my right side at my rib cage. Just had an abdominal ultrasound done yesterday and waiting to hear back on results. My liver enzymes were slightly elevated on 2 different blood tests. All my other bloodwork came back fine. Dr said something about a fatty liver, so I'm not sure if it's gallstones or a liver issue. You can find lots of info on the Internet about gallstones!

Re: Now Gallstones...

Hey Mary,

Sorry to hear about your gallstone problem. Isn't it just the way it works, you go into the doctor for routine exams and always come home with something new to worry about!!! I don't know much about gallstones either, but if you trust your doctor and he didn't think too much about it, I wouldn't worry too much. Like Karen said, do some research so that you can be an advocate for your health at your next appt.

Wishing you well,
Missy

Re: Now Gallstones...

Hello everyone,

I really don't like to search the web for medical things because for sure I'll find a horror story and that will stress me out even more. I have talked to a few people and apparently some people have silent gallstones their whole lives, this means they are there but don't have symptoms. I am going to the health food store to see if they have anything that dissolves them, I suppose if they aren't bothering me that's a good thing. On a positive note, if I do have pain there I will know what it is rather than wondering if I have a terrible disease.

Hugs,
Mary

Re: Now Gallstones...

Hi Mary,

Have you had your cholesterol levels checked recently? Cholesterol can have an impact on the formation of gallstones. Also, if you are not already, start taking Omega 3's. They will help prevent anymore formations. Women get more gallstones then men, why--hormones!!!!!! Can you believe it! Geez, what else is next!!

Take care,
Missy

Re: Now Gallstones...

Hi Missy,

I had my cholesteral checked and the doctor commented that he had never seen such a great reading on cholesteral levels, he said "keep doing what you are doing"...this is what I don't understand. I am not overweight, I'm 115 pounds. I don't drink sodas, I don't eat a lot of red meat, I don't drink milk, although I do eat cheese so I guess I'll cut out the cheese now. I haven't had a chance to get to the health food store but I'd like to get something natural that might dissolve them. I have no follow up appointment because I have no symptoms, but I don't want to get symptoms of an attack so I'd like to do something. I think it's estrogen, that's what I've read.

Mary

Re: Now Gallstones...

Unfortunately, being slim and eating low fat is also a cause for gallstones. The bile has no place to go because there is so little fat to digest. My sister was stunned when I was dx'ed with them because you wouldn't think I'd be a candidate. Also, women are at higher risk and it also can run in families. If you aren't having problems, I wouldn't worry. But if you start to, really consider removal. Trying to dissolve them can be problematic - they can get caught in the bile duct as they go to pass out of the gb and then you're in the ER with emergency removal.
