I am 54 and have been going through menopause for 10 years now. I am healthy, exercise regularly, do not smoke, drink in moderation, eat as natural as is possible and take vitamin supplements. I had a hysterectomy 8/2009 due to prolapse. Recently, the past 2 or 3 years, my hot flashes have become so violent I was forced to go on estrogen (without progesterone) pills. Besides profuse sweating my heartbeat would accelerate to 130-150 beats per minute (I am normally 70 beats per minute) and I would become extremely lightheaded, dizzy and nauseous. I had to weigh my disdain for taking these pills against the possibility of a stroke due to increased blood pressure during these episodes. I have tried herbs (Don Quoi, primrose oil, vitex (to name a few), a natural progesterone cream, numerous synergistic womenís wellness products found in health food stores, and even a Chinese herbal mixture.
I really need help!!! I fear the potential cancer implications of taking estrogen pills. I have led a life of dealing with health problems in as natural a way as possible, avoiding medication, and want so desperately to get off these pills. I occasionally go off them for weeks at a time, and have tried 2 days on 1 day off and every other day, but the flashes return with a vengeance. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Have you tried black cohosh? I was having really wicked hot flashes and night sweats
and I started taking cohosh just because it felt like my last resort...and it has reduced my symptoms remarkably. I've been on one pill (it also has soy in it) for the past six weeks and I got relief after only a couple of days.
