Feel like crap

I'm a 51 yr old woman who has been going through I guess what I consider perimenopause. Because I don't get hot flashes, and still get my periods, although those are getting less, I'm not considered to be in menopause according to my dr.'s. My symptoms started about 4-5 yrs ago with dizziness, or maybe more like a mild drunken state. They have progressed over the years to anxiety attacks, internal shakiness, depression (not severe), nausea, exhaustion, bloating, lack of interest in doing certain things I used to enjoy doing. All in all I feel pretty crappy most of the time. The dizziness is constant and I've had pretty much every test you can think of to try to figure it out, to no avail. I take menersa currently and effexor, they seem to help, but I guess I'm wondering if anyone else has these symptoms and can maybe give me some moral support.

Re: Feel like crap

tweezer: Get your hormones tested by an endocrinologist and also get tested for thyroid problems and diabetes. If your estrogen levels are high you could benefit from some progesterone supplements. The dizziness could be hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). It's a symptom of estrogen dominance. I'm 48 and have yet to have a hot flash because I'm estrogen dominant. You could be hypoglycemic and not be a diabetic. Also find out what your magnesium, Vit B6, B12 and D levels are. B12 is good for the nerves and helps calm you down. Exercise is good if you can manage to get it in.

Everything you say is right in line with all the perimeno symptoms. Some people have a hard time going through this and others just go through it with nothing. Instead of having hot flashes and the basic menopause issues, I'm getting epileptic seizures!!!!!!!!!!
It's caused by the estrogen dominance. Hormones control your brain and mood more than you know. Get them checked and get on some HRT to help you through this. Good luck.

Re: Feel like crap

Hi Senior Veteran: Thank you for your post. I've been tested for diabetes, hypoglycemia, hyperthyroid...I've have MRI's, CAT Scans, gone to a ENT specialist been through Vestibular testing, I've had EcoCardigrams, the whole nine yards. I guess I'm at my wits end. I guess I'll just go back to my Dr. with the hopes of someone telling me I'm normal.

Thanks again for your help!

Re: Feel like crap

Hi ladies,
Tweezer, in my opinion you do sound peri-menopausal. Especially the fact that you stated your periods are getting less frequent. Once the periods stop altogether for 12 consecutive months (menopause), then you'll be medically deemed post-menopausal. I am 47 and my symptoms started with hot flashes & night sweats at age 44. It has only been this year that my periods started becoming irregular (and some missing altogether).

I've experienced all the symptoms you've described as well, except dizziness is only occasional and not constant as yours seems to be. Thing is, not all women suffer the same symptoms while going through this change. While there are the basic symptoms of peri/meno, we are unique and everyone's problems with peri can vary.

There are some very good herbal remedies out there for symptom relief as well. Like Black Cohosh combined with soy isoflavones, L-Theanine (for anxiety/sleep problems), progesterone cream (rub on stomach), etc. And increased vitamin intake as suggested is also a must. I've found more energy myself by taking B vitamins, Calcium & Magnesium in addition to my regular multi-vitamin. However, I personally cannot take HRT and don't recommend it simply because it has health risks.

Hope you can find relief, know you're not alone, and thank you for posting! In this together, ~Karen

I get lots of bloating and severe gas. Do you? I also get nausea. Right now as I am typing I am laying down because I have chest pains. It feels like I am having a heart attack. I can't take this crap anymore. I get so much indigestion also. You are not alone. But I feel I am the only person with an extreme gas problem. I also get an off balance feeling but I don't know if that is from peri-meno. I might have some other problems I am looking into. (lYme) i have many sympgoms. Hopefully this will end soon. Lala

Re: Feel like crap

I know what you mean.
It seems like I feel like crap 24/7. Night sweats, heart palpitations, breast tenderness, chest feels hot, weird pulsing feelings throughout my body, tired, achy, bloated, loss of appetite, headaches. I just turned 47 and have been having these strange things happen for at least 3 years. I got 14 periods last year and am on track for same this year. The experts say you are supposed to have the same experience as your mother, but all she had was heavy bleeding. so much for that theory. I hate this! I want to feel like me again whatever that is.
I went to an endo. and he found low vit D. I've been on vit D for 6 months and there has been no improvements as he suggested.

s cubed:

Some of your symptoms sound like peroi-menopause but I have to say some don't. the fact that you are getting regular periods sound to me like something else is going on. Have you been a dr to discuss these issues? Getting 14 periods a year is pretty normal. That is one a month with two extra. That does not sound like you are in peri. Think about it? Let me know what you think. LaLa

Hi Lala...yes I get lots of bloating also and gas, it's not horrible, but it is there. You do need to get into the dr's office and get your acid reflux checked, the longer that goes on, the more damage it can cause. Have you tried any over the counter meds for reflux?

I hope you find some answers, so far, I haven't.

Take care

Tweezer:

I have had my acid reflux checked. I have had two endoscopys in the last few years. i have a hiatal hernia also. I have had many different test from the gastro dr. not really much going on to cause all this. The natural drs that i have been to say it is candida of the intestines. That is an overgrowth of yeast. i am supposed to stay away from all carbs. I try, but it is difficult. When i go out I like to have the bread and the drinks and the dessert. The whole nine yards. But when i am home I eat only veggies, salads and protein. I am not even suppose to have fruit. I eat a half apple a day. I also take probiotics and have been on many candida supplements. The problem comes and goes. Last week was terrible. This week so far is not as bad. i also take 3 tlbs. of coconut oil a day and 3 tlbs of apple cider vinegar a day. it does not end. I am on a million supplements. i spend a fortune on them and the natural drs that I go to. i am on natural hormone supplements. They are safe. They are homeopathic herbs. So far I have not noticed a difference with the peri-meno symptoms since I started them, which has been only about two weeks. I also am being treated for a virus in my body. I have been very sick for the past four years. i have had every test known to man with no results. i just went to a LLMD to be tested for Lyme. I won't get my results back for another three weeks. So in addition to peri-meno I also have been very sick with something undiagnosed at the moment. My new problem is that all of a sudden in the past two months my libido is down. I am very depressed over that. The homeopathic stuff is not doing anything for that yet. He told me if it does not help he has something else for me to try. i see that dr again in Aug. So we will see what happens. I have never had a problem in that department and I am very bothered by it. I think I will put a separate post on the board for that one. See what other people are doing for it. Anyway, hope you are doing better. What is your status now? Let me know. Take care for now. Talk soon. LaLa

Re: Feel like crap

Hi LaLa,

OMG I feel so bad for you!!! I know how it feels to go through every test imaginable to try and find out what is going on with our bodies. I too have been through several tests, scans, you name it, trying to figure this all out, but at least your still trying. I myself have just given up and hope that everything I'm going through is strickly peri related. The last couple week s I've felt extremely crappy!! It's hard getting up in the morning and going to work. The one thing you have to remember with all of this is, that your libido is going to be down, you have so much on your plate right now and you're so focused on trying to feel better and normal again that sex isn't part of the equation. I'm sure that the person who loves and adores you will totally understand as long as you keep them in the loop as to how you feel and what's going on. I have to believe that someday we will feel normal again and that everything will be right in the world once more. The one thing I can't believe is how many women feel as we do and that's there really isn't any help for us. It's like we have to diagnose ourselves. I hope and pray that you will find a solution soon, you seem like a sweetheart of a person.

Take care and I hope I've offered you some support in your battle!!
