Help Me to Understand My FSH LH Test Results

Hello Everyone:

This is my first post. I hope I am doing this correctly. I recently had blood tests done to determine my FSH LH levels. I am 47 years old and have not had my period since August 12th. Before that I was extremely regular. Very very regular. Then it stopped. No cramps, no pains, no twinges, no nothing. I suspected menopause, that is why the doctor did the blood work. These are my levels and I am not quite sure what they mean. He said they do not indicate menopause. Can anyone help me, please.

FSH 7.0
Follicular Phase 2.5 10.2
Mid-Cycle Peak 3.1 - 17.7
Luteal Phase 1.5 9.1
Postmenopausal 23.0 - 116.3

LH 9.6
Follicular Phase 1.9 12.5
Mid-Cycle Peak 8.7 - 76.3
Luteal Phase 0.5 - 16.9
Postmenopausal 15.9 - 54.0

Thank you.

Re: Help Me to Understand My FSH LH Test Results

Hi HJV,

Welcome to the board!

According to your tests you are not in menopause. Depending on what time of the month you took the test will tell you what should be in normal range. For instance, your FSH level of 7.0 puts you in normal range for whatever time of the month you took the test. According to your lab, a reading of 23 (post menopause) would put you into menopause. You are only at 7.

Same goes with your LH, you are at 9.6 when according to your lab 15.9 indicates menopause.

They just break up the month into different cycles: follicular, mid cycle (your period) and luteal.

That doesn't mean that you are not beginning perimenopause though, your periods will change dramatically during this time also.

Hope this helps and hang in there because it really can become a rough ride.

Take care,
Missy

Hormones fluctuate greatly during different times of the month.
