I'm 48 about 2 years into menopause. About 3 months ago I noticed that my tongue hurt when I ate spicy foods. At first I thought maybe I had burned it tasting food but this affects most of my tongue not just the tip. When I typed in burning tongue on Google I was suprised to see it associated with menopause. Does anyone else have these symptoms, is there anything I can do about this, will it go away? I have had to give up spicy foods because if I eat them it hurts so much I cry.
I can't say that I have the burning tongue/mouth yet.....I have every other symptom, but I have read other posts on this board about it. Try doing a search for burning tongue/mouth and I am sure something will pop up.
susan1215: Yes, I saw it on here too. It does have something to do with menopause. I don't know what. I'm feeling it too. My hormones are all screwed up. Are you on any meds? I'm also wondering if it has something to do with drinking coffee these days.
Do your gums and tongue feel as though they are burning, but when you touch them they do not hurt? I have burning mouth syndrom. I am post medapausal..by about 10 years. Actually, I never felt the affects of it, as i has a hystreactomy (so) when I was mid 50s. My BMS started with a burning feeling where the gum meets a tooth. In the past two years, it has spread and gotten worse. My entire mouth in affected. Chewing gum has been my best relief. I'm sure you have read all the remedies and aides...I've tried most of them. The only foods I have given up are tomato based and acidic. They say to give up caffine, but I can't go that far. If you have true BMS, save yourself a lot of grief and expense...forget the doctors and prescription drugs. I haven't found a doctor who knows anything about BMS. Try the lists of home remedies and find one that works for you. Good luck. Hopefully this is just a passing phase.
Thanks for the information. Unfortunately I tested fine for both folic acid and all the Bs. In fact, every test I have had related to any possible cause for my burning mouth has been normal. Also, any kind of treatment, and I have had many over the past two years, has been unsuccessful. Pretty frustrating. I'm always open for help if anyone has some to give.
