Can anyone offer any advice?????

I Everyone!! I am 49 years old and have had peri symptoms pretty bad for the last 6 years. My OBGYN says that since I still have a period I am fine..(REALLY????). I have finally found someone new that will check my hormones, but can't get in to see her until the first of Aug.
Anyway, I am at a place where I seriously feel like I have about one good week a month. I have wicked PMS (which I never had before) and then I have my period and then if that's not enough during my time to ovulate it nails me again. The week I get my period I actually feel pretty good, but I am bleeding like a stabbing victim so it is really not too pleasant.
Before, my period came like clockwork, the only time I was ever late, I was pregnant. I never missed a day of work and rarely cramps. NOW.. I could not tell you when it is coming, how long it will last, if I will bleed like a hemorrhage, or just spot. I don't have actual hot sweats, but I do have flushes, my husband told me the other night that I was like sleeping with a heating pad. I am moody, the anxiety is killer and I am so foggy and out of sorts that I don't even know my kids names..
I don't even want to get into sex...I am not interested and I have vaginal dryness like the desert(which I never had before).
Anyway, I have so many more symptoms that I don't want to bore you with, I have just touched on the ones that make me feel crazy.
My Mom had an early hysterectomy so I have no idea what she would have been like.
OH..I could live on chocolate..and salt! Not a good combo since I have now become the water retention Queen!

I am just wondering if I am crazy and if anyone has found any supplements or vitamins that have proven helpful. I am not too thrilled with taking hormones so if I don't have to I don't want to.

Thank you all!!! SO MUCH!!
This board has been wonderful and you ladies are all amazing for sharing your stories and helping us all to get through this changing time in our lives!!

I look forward to hearing from you and hearing if anyone has found anything that they think will help..

xoxoxo

Re: Can anyone offer any advise?????

Sorry youre suffering. I can relate!
I have found that black cohosh tablets (one each day) help me,somewhat. My primary issue is with hot flashes and night sweats.
Feel better!

Re: Can anyone offer any advise?????

CrazyLife - Your post made me laugh - it reminds me alot of myself. I'm almost 48 - have been having peri symptoms since I was 42. I'm on the pill so that makes the symptoms a little better - and during my "period" week when I go off the pill - I take a low dose estrogen supplement which really helps. Anyway - I have so many peri symptoms that I could write my own book on it! Anxiety, dry skin, palpitations, moodiness, hot flushes (not alot of sweating, thanks to the pill!), fuzzy headedness, etc., etc., etc. I also have alot of digestive problems too, a have acid reflux/hiatal hernia issues that I never battled with until the peri started! I never knew how much fun perimenopause could be! haha....jk. I would suggest going on the pill, it does help the symptoms some, as well as supplementing with estrogen if your doc will prescribe it. Also, maybe take something for your digestive issues as well. HOpe you feel better soon and let us know!

Re: Can anyone offer any advise?????

Ditto! I have all the same symptoms. I am 46 and have been going through this for 6 years. Somehow we will make it through this together. I got the acid reflux thing too when I entered peri. I am using progesterone creams that are made for me after I had my saliva tested. You may want to try that. It does help. I was low on progesterone and testosterone. The thing about this is that you should test every few months so you keep the level right.

I thank God I have all of you to talk to because most of my friends around here don't want to talk about menopause and no one admits they are going through it.

Take Care!

Re: Can anyone offer any advise?????

I so appreciate your response...I get lots of suggestions to go on the pill, but the last time I was on it, it made me feel so tired. I will talk to my doc. I did find some vitamins that are supposed to be helpful.
Anyway, I am so happy to know that I am not the only one having these issues.
I am excited to see this new doctor, I hope that she will have some ideas.

I am just so tired of this...sometimes I just need to laugh at myself, because honestly if I don't laugh I would be crying all of the time..
Here's to a good week for all of us!!

Re: Can anyone offer any advise?????

My friends don't like to talk about it either, they act like this is something that they don't know anything about ( until you see one of them having a hot flash)...well for me that is how I cope. I am so thankful that I have you all. It is nice to know that we can get on here, bounce things off of each other and vent a little!!
Thank you all again!!
