Total Hysterectomy

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has ever had a total hysterectomy because of excessive bleeding and cramping? I have cysts on one of my ovaries, and I had a tubal ligation after my last baby in 2005. Since then, I've had excessive bleeding, incontinence, and really bad PMS. I've also had a lot of depression, which now I feel I have under control with no meds.
Anyway, my doctor said that she believes a total hysterectomy is needed. I've been reading horror stories about surgically induced menopause.
Does anyone have positive stories? Still not sure whether I should have it done or not.

Re: Total Hysterectomy

Hi,

I haven't had a hysterectomy. But, I have had a tubal, followed by heavy periods and cramping. I'm on birth control for the sole purpose of helping with that problem. I never took birth control prior. So, for me, it solved the problem.

Sometimes women stop taking birth control after a tubal and notice a different in their periods that birth controls pills unknowingly had helped.

I'm not sure if that's an option for you. But, I wouldn't rush into anything permanent, if your unsure of what you want to do with your body.

If a tubal had a big impact on you and maybe your hormones, a hysterectomy may have big impact on you as well.
