Spotting after 2 years in menopause

February last year and now February this year I have had spotting. Started off with breast pain and then a week later spotting. Had a vaginal ultrasound both times. Last year 6mm endometrium and this year 8mm endometrium with polyps and ovarian cysts and no fluid in cavity. All blood works came back normal. I am 53 years old and have been in menopause since 2009. I am waiting to get an appointment with the gynocologist.

My question is has anyone else had the same thing happen where the spotting is exactly 12 months apart. I feel well in myself and I haven't really had any major issues with menopause other than the spotting.

Thanks

Re: Spotting after 2 years in menopause

Hi there, funny thing you should ask....I have been in menopause now for 2 years as well. I had a total thyroid removal last Feb. Since then, I have had a bit of cramping every now and then, but the last few months has become more regular. Just like I am getting ready to begin my period. This morning I had a very small bit of brownish discharge. I freaked...have a Gyn appt. @ 7:15 am. Don't want to worry, but I don't think this is to happen after menopause....and I really am not liking the cramps. But as my wise daughter said to me this morning, "the path is laid out mom, no worrying is going to change what is going on". So get it checked and we will do what is necessary. So I am trying to keep that focus...but I too am a bit worried. I would, if I were you, just get it checked out. You will feel much better I am sure. Good luck!!

Re: Spotting after 2 years in menopause

Yes I thought it was strange to have it 12 months apart and nearly to the day. Doctor on the other hand says any spotting / period after 2 years of not having one is suspect. Last year I didn't have any polyps or cysts but this year I do so this time the doctor wants me to see a gynocologist to check it out. I am waiting on an appointment time with the gynocologist for an endometrial biopsy to make sure I do not have endometrial cancer and I will probably be told to have a D & C anyway because of the lining and polyps. I have decided to not worry. It's not worth the stress.

Another thing the doctor told me was even though you are in menopause your hormones do all sorts of strange things including the above. I just thought it strange about the timing of mine.

Hope all went well with your gyno appointment the other day.

Thanks

Re: Spotting after 2 years in menopause

Well, tomorrow I have the Vaginal Ultrasound. Then depending on the results of that, I will have either the biospy or the D&C. Neither one is too exciting, but necessary to be sure nothing is wrong. I am thinking that I may have a cyst. I have a lot of them, have had a vaginal cyst that was removed a few years ago and was benign. I am hoping that my good luck continues. One saving grace is that all my blood work, tests were great at my yearly physical last month. So whatever this is has just been the last 6 months. I have had the biospy before, truly NOT pleasant but over quickly. Count to 10 and it should be over. But I will not lie, when they take the swab, it is like a hot iron being held against your insides. It hurts....I have read where they say it does not hurt, but I like the truth so I know what I am being faced with and can prepare. I just said the word "****" about 20 times...lol!!! Then it was over. I walked out just fine and came home and took a nap. Woke up and felt great. So all will be fine. We will get through this....no one told me menopause was like this!!!!!! I am OVER it...Good luck...let me know how things turn out...
