Digestive issues with peri menopause, help!

All of a sudden the foods I used to love, I no longer desire. I have issues with digestion, reflux, gas, feeling full after meals, currently taking dexilant but can't help but think it's hormonal issues...
Is anyone else suffering with this....no hot flashes, some night sweats and OMG, the tears and weeping....
Any remedies, or will it be like this forever??

I have lots of digestive issues with peri. I have burning stomach going all the way to my back and neck, minimal hot flash. i do feel cold alot. Gerd, acid reflux, bloating and gas. When i am home i have to wear a lose fitting dress as my tummy is always bloated. i know it is the hormones. i have to be picky of what i eat.

Leisl..
Oh Girl!! My digestive issues are so bad now that I am in Peri!! I am coming to find that my whole way of life is having to change.. the way I eat is especially important.
I have started taking Digestive Enzymes with each meal to help me. It has really been helpful.
Take Care and know that you are not alone!!

I was told that the brand really doesn't matter, just as long as they are in the refrigerator section of the store...if they are not refrigerated they "die"...

One more question???

Do carbs bother any of you? I really don't feel well at all when I eat carbs, it causes gastro issues, burping and I just don't feel good..
I seem to crave the things that make me feel the worst!

I have read a lot lately about going low carb, high protein with lots of fruits and veggies..

Any thoughts??

The carbs are bothering me too. Gas, belching, stomach distention, and I was told I have silent reflux, which effects my breathing/asthma...
I think protein, fruits and veggies are the way to go...I also find quinoa which is protein, is a good thing...

Leisl.. Same here..it makes me crazy. Sometimes I feel like I can't breath. My doctor said I should go back on Prilosec, but I have some crazy side effects. They are minor, but I just don't like taking anything if I don't have to.
I am trying to watch my diet extra close..I will let you know if it helps.
Best of Luck to you!!

Just read a great article about how gluten and dairy free is the way to go during peri and menopause.
Let me know how you do!!!
Hugs!

Re: Digestive issues with peri menopause, help!

Wow, I had no idea that digestive issues were a symptom of perimenopause, but it sure makes sense. Since I had hot flashes about 4 years ago, I have had horrible bouts of diarrhea and gas. I can't tolerate fiber, eating a salad means running to the bathroom three or four times. I thought maybe I had become lactose intolerant, but avoiding dairy or taking lactaid didn't help. I've had to resort to taking an anti-diarrheal to be able to work and run errands. I never had issues like this before, and it's concerning and rather humiliating.
I have also had issues with heartburn, and after trying for the last few years to curb it with diet, then antacids, I found ranitidine to be a lifesaver. I hate taking all this medication, but as my doctor says...would I have any quality of life without it? But he never mentioned the digestive upsets may be due to the change of life.

Re: Digestive issues with peri menopause, help!

Berrycake, I am finding more and more that these hormonal changes effect so much in our body, it's really an ordeal. I went to a nutritionist today, I am going to try staying off of wheat, dairy, SOY and corn and see if I see any change....have you tried elimination, other than lactose?
