Question Swollen testicle

Hey guys, I'd like your advice as I'm a little concerned.

About 5 days ago I felt a sensation in my left testicle, much like if you get caught in the balls, not with malice, but a slight feeling of, "ooo"! Anyways, it kept coming and going, causing no pain, just annoyance. Then after about 4 days it was getting a little more annoying, still not really painful. I decided to see the doctor, but it was Sunday and the following day was a bank holiday. Now, today being tuesday, I ring the docs and can't get an appointment till thursday! So I'm hoping you can put my mind at ease.

Here are the symptoms:

Slightly swollen left testicle, moves about in an odd fashion also.
Slightly harder than the right.
No pain when urinating, no pain when ejactulating
It's not sexual because I haven't had unprotected, nay, any sex for months.
No pain in the abdomen etc.
No lumps.

At first I thought it was water retension, but that's not painful. Now I suspect Epididmitis, an infection of my sperm tubes.

I've been drinking only water and taking ibuprofen, an anti-inflam, but only for the last day so I can't really tell if it's working.

Yesterday it was mildly painful, today, not so much so as of yet. However, any advice you guys could give would be much much appreciated to tide me over until thursday.

Cheers

Re: Swollen testicle

hey bro..I really can't help you with this, but I have been having the same problem...

swollen left testicle (out of the blue)
sudden stingy pain in the back part of left testicle
bad pain in left groin

this happened suddenly on august 4th...so three different doctors already, and they all gave me different diagnose and treatments, first doc thought it was a bacterial infection and gave me doxycycline, but after 5 days, the symptoms did not change, well the strong pain from the first day went away, but the coming and going of pains was still there and swelling has not changed.....so went to see another doc, and he thought maybe it was torsion since it hasn't changed...and told me to go to ER to be safe...and at ER doc said it was not torsion or I'd really be in dying pain...but that I had orchitis, and just rest and ice testicle as much as possible and about two weeks, it should get better...well its about two weeks now and it has not changed...swelling is still there(did not get bigger, but constant swollen size)
and still get minor pains in groin and testicle.....

So FINALLY, I got a referral to an urologist for this coming tuesday, even though I had to pretty much argue wth a doc to see one....(stupid HMO I have)

so hoping, the urologist can tell me what is wrong and give me a test since the other 3 docs won't give me a test, and instead give me their stupid educated guess which is not okay when it comes to something as serious as my testicless....

if you don't mind, please let me know what your urologist told you since I think by now, you saw him...
thanks...its be a great help..
thanks!

Re: Swollen testicle

More than likely you do have orchitis. An antibiotic, bed rest, ice on the balls...but most of all rest and the antibiotic. I had the same thing happen years ago. It was about 4 years after I had had a vasectomy. Some of my reading at the time said that the v'ectomy can sometimes cause orchitis. It is good that you are going to the urologist. I wasn't allowed to lift anything and I stayed in bed for three days of rest and took it easy for several weeks being careful not to lift. Keep us informed.

Re: Swollen testicle

P.S. I was told that orchitis can be VERY serious. Keep hounding the physicians.

Re: Swollen testicle

Well when i was first told I had orchitis, I was given two days of medical leave from work to rest and i did that all day, but I can't afford to miss any more work days, but when im not at work i try to rest, but sometimes I have to still do my every day stuff, go to the supermarket, run important errands, and what not...and most of the time, the pain is minimal, but other times it can get bad....I need some medication that can really help the swelling go away...because I can't just sit home everyday..I have to work and do things....I wish I had the time to just sit at home and relax....

and when you were talking about medications? What were referring to? Cause this doxycycline, I took that for two weeks and it did not help at ALL...and my docs said after 5 days if I am not better, the medication is not helping...so I was never given any test or medications to help it.....

my life is very active with work and i have A LOT of upcoming family personal vacations, that I CAN NOT miss out on. so I am really get upset and depressed that I can't not get rid of my problem.

How long did it take for your swelling to go down? and what did you in the process of it?
thanks !

Re: Swollen testicle

Sorry that you are having such a bout with this testicle swelling. It has been too long ago (over 20 years ago) for me to remember the medications and therapy. I think I was on bed rest for about three days (over a long weekend) If the swelling isn't going down after the meds, you should revisit your doctor. There are other things like epiditimytis (not sure of the spelling) which is an inflammation of the epiditimis (spelling again). This can really make the balls sore. If your physician doesn't seem to know what is happening, I would try and find a physician who knows the medications and all but also might have some alternative treatment via supplements and natural remedies. The reason I say this is I suffered from epiditimytis for four years. Went to doctors (urologist included). They would prescribe an antibiotic but the symptoms would return withing two months. I read in our local newspaper about a local doctor who tried alternative treatments. Made an appointment. He told me that he could prescribe the same meds but it would only treat the symptoms and they would return. He said that my immune system was run down and it needed to be built up. He prescribed a supplement called bromelain which is a pineapple extract. The bromelain works at rebuilding the immune system. Along with the bromelain I took echinacea with golden seal which is also given for immune system issues. The doctor told me that I may not notice any changes for about three months. It only took three weeks for the symptoms to subside!! I've not been bothered with epiditimytis since and that was in early 1997. Some have told me that it was all a placebo effect, but you'll never convince me of that. After four years of suffering and then three weeks on the supplements and then no symptoms...that is NOT a placebo effect.

Anyway, I said all of the above to encourage you to keep seeking a solution to your health issue. Ask around at work for such a physician. They are more and more common. A doctor who is a D.O. (doctor of osteopathy) seems to know more about alternative medical treatments than the regular MD's.

Keep us informed as to your progress. I also understand the need to keep working and not take time off.

Re: Swollen testicle

thanks for the feedback. I really hope it doens't take me that long. I never even had any surgery done on me..It came so sudden....the doxycycline medication I got was from the first doc I saw, I have seen two other docs already and told them it did not work, first one thought it was torsion and to see ER, and the ER guy told me it was orchitis, and to just rest....

the other day I was walking on the beach (only to get to watch the AVP beach volleyball tournamen) and just walking like 10 mins on the sand, hurt my left testicle, guess too much fast movements on the testicles, and my testicle was really swollen and hurting like hell...

that night I iced it and tried an advil...today it is A LOT better, still slight pain, but nothing compared to yesterday..

well I have a certain HMO, and it sucks, but with my experience with them, these doctors can care less about you...everytime I see a doctor, they just give you a quick check adn a quick answer....all I am asking for is a simple sonogram or ultrasound, why is that so hard to give to me...I mean, I know they might get offended by asking cause it makes me seem like I don't trust their diagnose, but for the fact that their diagnose is just an assumption, not the facts, and after seeing three different docs and all giving me a different answer, obviously, it's time to give me a test to see what it is....I hope my urologist is bright enough to give me a test....
if not, I will be so mad...just to get a referral to see an urologist took a small fight with a doctor I saw..he would not give me one till after about asking him 5 times and then he got mad and was like okay, you can go now...

No doctor should talk to you like that, and we are the patient, you should listen to what we want...so, it's hard for me to keep just getting extra opinions cause I feel like all the docs under my HMO act the same...careless

I use to have PPO and had a personal doc and that was great....they actually care....

I cant change my insurance though cause I don't have the money for it and my company i work for doesn't give option of health insurance...

sorry for going off track...just wish I can find a doctor that can finally give me a good answer and some test done on me...
