Exclamation Surgery for Epididymitis?? Last Resort..

Hello all.. I have posted my problem many months ago, and have more to add. For those of you who may not have seen the post, here is a brief description. I am a 22 year old male, was in good health until May 5, 2004. I awoke to pain in my left testicle and after a day or so went to the Dr and was diagnosed with epididymitis and was put on a course of antibiotics. The medicine did no good and pain killers never touched my problem so I had an ultrasound, blood work, std test, urine test, and physical exam of the area. everything came back negative. I have never had a trace of an infection, and to this day have undergone 3 ultrasounds, 2 blood tests, several urine tests and have seen more than 10 doctors and 2 urologists. I have been on a total of 6, yes six courses of antibiotics over the past 10 months. nothing has helped me out and I have been fed up with doctors that diagnose me with the same thing. The last urologist I went to said That the Epididymitis will come back again and again and there is really no way to get rid of it.. I have heard of surgery, but only want to do so as a last result. Well I am basically at that part now where I am seeking some surgery that can help me get my life back. Before I research further I would like to know if anyone has had the same problem and if so any advice on this situation??

12 doctors and 10 months of drugs. Damn. I'd say go for the surgery.

Sorry I can't help with any personal experience. Have you done a ****** search on the condition? Maybe there's some info around. But you'd think 12 doctors would be able to help you.

I would find out where the cutting edge research is being done on epididymitis, and start corresponding with them, telling them that this is getting to be desperate for you. Web searches, and talking with your doctors may help. Surgery is going to open you up, but then what are they going to do, but remove tissue? My guess, and I don't know, is that there is a risk that you will end up sterile, at least in the testicle where they do the surgery. We took this route when a relative had had 11 surgeries on her intestines, had a colostomy bag, and a huge unused, infected hole in her abdomen. The last surgeon we saw fixed her as if nothing had happened. The relative took the time to find out where the best were, and went to them, and had great, unexpected results. I wish you the best of luck with this.

Re: Surgery for Epididymitis?? Last Resort..

thanks for that info.. I have researched Epididymitis and found that the medical community in general does not know off all causes or treatments outside of antibiotics and bed rest... If anyone out there has come across any reaearch regarding Epididymitis and treatments outside of medication, it would be greatly appreciated...

Reading your post is comforting to me. My husband has the EXACT same problem Four doctors in two-three years, as well as numerous antibiotics. It all seems so hopeless.

What antibiotics have you taken? Has anyone mentioned the possibility of prostatitis? Have you tried an anti-inflammatory or a muscle relaxer?

Re: Surgery for Epididymitis?? Last Resort..

I've basically been on every antibiotic out there.. You name it and I've tried it.. In the past 2 months I have been on 2 more courses, seen one more urologist, and have to date been to 14 doctors, 3 Urologists, Had 3 Ultrasounds, 5 X-rays, 2 Blood Tests, 2 STD tests, close to 15 Urine tests, 5 prostate exams, full urological tests all over, getting ready for my 2nd CT scan, taken everything from simple mortin to Oxycodone with everything in between... I have had all tests come back negative for anything wrong accept cysts on my testicles in which doctors stress they do not cause pain... I am around some of the best Hospitals too, UNC, Duke, and Rex... been to all of them plus others.. no luck.. I have no idea in what to do.. I just keep checking back here in hopes that someone who is going through the same thing, or has recovered has some advice that may help.. Oh yeah, and I don't have prostatis to the last part of your question...

I had a surgery for that. After the operation (and the healing process of course) I felt GREAT.

Dude,

oh my God, be careful. Do NOT take any more antibiotics, its obvious you do not have an infection, if you did, the antibiotics would have knocked it out by now. you might want them to check for a Hernia or a problem wtih your Pelvic Floor Muscles. Go see a Physical Therapist who is experienced wtih Pelvic Floor Therapy and Trigger Points, read up on "Pelvic Pain" and visits sites on ChronicPelvicPain and you will learn that your problem is not infectious. But muscle related.

Good luck.
