I am taking testosterone injections twice monthly for hypogonadism ( I'm 22). Iv'e been taking testosterone cypionate. But I am wondering if I am on the right stuff. Is Ethonate and cypionate different? and is one better then the other? And what is depo testosterone? I'm kinda stumped here, and my next appointment with my endo is 7 weeks away so I won't get a chance to ask him until then. Can someone shed some light on this? The cypionate doesn't seem to have any effect on me, and i"m wondering if the other type might make a difference. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
JinL's advice is good. At 22 I would be very surprised if you had primary hypogonadism (meaning the testicles dont work). Even if you did I think HCG injections should be taken along with the testosterone to prevent testicular atrophy where the testicles shrink, shutdown and stop making T and sperm.
Discuss this with your endo. Tell him you want to remain fertile due to your age. If he does not want to use HCG then find another doctor.
Also you are very young to have this. Most likely you have secondary hypogonadism at your age. Did they do an MRI of your pituitary? That is standard for secondary hypogonadism. Its also possible you could have a small benign (non cancerous) tumor called an ademona on the pituitary causing this. If so, it may be able to be removed which would be a permanent cure.
If your doctor did not discuss fertility with you when you are 22 and just put you on testosterone replacement then shame on him (or her). There's no excuse for that.
