I had a prostate biopsy four+ weeks ago. Twelve probes - fortunately all benign. I was briefed that I would probably experience blood in my urine and in my semen but no time table was mentioned. I only had bloody urine for one day. However, after four ejaculations, my semen continues to look like red mud. I'm 68 and manage to ejaculate only about every four days. I waited over two weeks before the first one following the biopsy. Since the biopsy, ejaculation seems to lack the strong prostate surges I usually have; however, the amount of semen (red mud) seems to have significantly increased.
Is this to be expected? What have others experienced?
One of the most emotional issues of the prostate biopsy is the issue of having sex. Do we ejaculate our bloody semen into our partner's body? Or wait weeks or months to resume intimacy?
After two weeks, I finally figured out to Use a CONDOM. They came in handy during menopause, and I still had a few in the drawer. My wife had fun with it and said, "I feel like I'm 40 again." It took the edge off.
The only thing was my initial loss of sensitivity, however after a short while, the additional lubrication really helped my wife get into it and everthing was back to normal and even better than lately.
Doctors, please suggest to your patients this option after the prostate biopsy. Getting back to normal intimacy is a huge part of healing.
