No sex drive, tried gel now on shots...nothing works.
For years(I am 47) I have had no sex drive, after all the usual talk of depression, mental problems etc I was found to have low T.Gels helped for 2 weeks then stopped working.I am now trying shots, still nothing.I know my E2 level is high but cannot get medication in the UK.I am still fat with all the fat around my abdomen and guess this has an effect. What should I do?.I have no intrest in sex at all.

How high is too high? why cant you get meds in the UK? do you mean like arimidex? Have you tried DIM or 6 oxo? these are supplements. Not sure how that works in the UK...in the US there are NO regulations on supplements..

being chubby could be a factor in your loss of drive. Also, maybe your HGH levels have fallen which also could be a factor in loss of sex drive/performance.
Re: No sex drive, tried gel now on shots...nothing works.
Being chubby is what reportedly causes a raise in the T to E2 conversion... so losing weight would help. but when you are on TRT you are putting synthetic T into your system and a certain amount of conversion is going to happen...I have read in many places that with any type of T booster or T replacment a good E2 conversion blocker is always neccesary....
Re: No sex drive, tried gel now on shots...nothing works.
I think there is hope for you because for 2 weeks the gel worked. During that 2 weeks you were getting T from 2 sources, the gel and your testicles. After that your testicles shut down because your hypothalmus in your brain detected T was too high. Now that you are on shots most likely your dose is just not right. Not only does your T need to be high enough, it should not be too high or it will cause Estradiol (E2) to be too high amoung other probelms. Also your estradiol needs to be kept in check. To really be able to help you, you need to get a copy of your blood tests while on shots and post the results. My guess is your dose of T shots is probably not high enough but it's purely a guess, it might be too high. What dose are you taking , how often, and what is the strength of the T you are taking in mg/ml?
It would also help to know your SHBG, prolactin, and LH/FSH (while not on treatment).
Re: No sex drive, tried gel now on shots...nothing works.
I read some past posts of yours and remember your case now. One question. Did you ever have your estradiol or total estrogen tested before any replacement therapy? It may be that all you need is clomid or arimidex as an estrogen blocker. Of course I don't know if any of that is possible in England but the high estrogen could be the cause of your low T. Losing weight could also help but I realize that may be easier said than done. Still though you are suffering with this, I can tell. Can you make a lifestyle change that might help? I have no idea of your diet but you can look at that and look at increasing whatever exercise you do. Bicycling or walking are excellent ways to burn calories without stressing joints. Whatever treatment you end up with, losing body fat will definitely help make it work.
Re: No sex drive, tried gel now on shots...nothing works.
I only had the E2 test done after T treatment,I asked for it as neither my Endo or GP deemed it necessary. It was(I don't remember the units) three times higher than top range for a man,I can tell when it's very high as I get weepy and emotional.I think I am on 100mg of susternon every three weeks, getting tested here is a joke,I see my endo once a year, one endo said what do you expect at your age?(I was 38 at the time!!)
Re: No sex drive, tried gel now on shots...nothing works.
Ahhh! This is ridiculous. Even your doctor throws his hands up and says what do you expect, proper treatment? Dont be absurd. Maybe you can appear on the 20/20 show here next Friday when Michael Moore will argue for government healthcare in the U.S. You are a perfect example of how it does not work.
Every 3 weeks is definitely a problem. You are on a T rollercoaster. Your T (and Estradiol) gets way too high then way too low. You are only rarely at a good level during that 3 week period and not long enough for you to even notice. Is there any way you can convince your doctor to let you give yourself your own injections? A typical dose is 60-70 mg/week of T which should be taken either once a week or 1/2 that dose twice a week. You may still need something to inhibit estrogen conversion but this is a first step to try anyway.
Even here in the U.S. I have to go to a doctor out of my insurance network and pay the whole cost myself. But it is worth it for this problem if you can afford it. My worry here is if we go to a national healthcare system like you have that even for minor problems it will be difficult to get proper care.
