Welcome to the board HH!

Have you already tried Avodart?

I checked out the site for the procedure despite the fact that I have taken the Saw Palmetto option for many years. But just starting Testosterone therapy made me want to catch up on the latest BPH treatments. I will do anything to avoid the "Gold Standard," TURP!).

Although they say most men have no lingering side effects (I would really like to see all the stats behind that hyperbole), they do mention erectile dysfunction as a possible sexual side effect. I was curious as to why retrograde ejaculation was not mentioned as it is typically an issue even with BPH meds and certainly with any surgery. I read down further and they say that men who are concerned with their fertility may opt out of this procedure.

Wondering why, I kept reading. First they say that if any part of the heated instrument touches the testicles that sterility can result. Well, that's a DUH! You would think that the doc isn't stoned when he does this or doesn't tell a bad joke or something and let it slip onto your testicles! But hey, there are risks with any surgery due to human error.

I kept reading and finally found, near the bottom, that retrograde ejaculation is a possible side effect. I would imagine that you will have to weigh all the pros and cons as well as other options before deciding. Is this procedure of "immediate concern?" Maybe you can do more research.

I also don't see anywhere in their statements about follow up. That is, how long will the results last? Will you have to undergo this procedure again in 5, 10, 15, or 20 years? I think that is certainly worth asking or getting further info on.

It seems that BPH treatments, although there are now more options, really haven't advanced that much since I first investigated them almost 15 ears ago. Much more research is way overdue in this area.

I will say that the pix showing how the male urethra sits within the prostate is one of the best I have ever seen. I don't think most men have a clue how the prostatic fluid (30% of semen) gets into the urethra and how it is possible for a UTI to get in to the prostate.

I hope someone who has had this procedure can answer your question with more authority than I.

Re: Any one familiar with "Prolieve Thermodilation System" for BPH

I am on 1/2 tablet of DOXAOSIN daily and one AVODART capsule once a week. Seems to be helping control things. Also taking Prostate SR [theralogix] daily.

My urology doctor said the Prolieve treatment system has been on the market about 3 years. So he is not saying anything about long term results. I’m not in bad shape yet so I’ll continue to research this type of treatment. I was set to have laser surgery about 6 months ago, but changed my mind about doing that so I went to check out the microwave treatment. It seems to be safer than laser because of the needle sedation only for microwave also office treatment. Laser requires anesthesiology and hospital time.

It seems to be the less invasive and produce less side effects than older methods but I would have to look at all of them side by side to fully evaluate. It sounds like you have. Even if it did not last, say 5 years or so, the procedure is easy enough to repeat. Was there anything about not having it if you have had it before?

I was on the D briefly myself a few years ago but like I say I switched to the Prostate 5LX Saw Palmetto formula with Pumpkin Seed oil, Ginger, Stinging Nettle, Rosemary, and Green Tea. No other drugs. It worked for me such that my last doc visit last year, he told me I do *not* have BPH. That is coming after being diagnosed almost 15 years ago by both my Internist MD and it was also on my Colonoscopy report from a totally separate MD. and having had almost all the symptoms. It was not on this year's colonoscopy report, only an internal Hemorrhoid (probably from all the Green Tea!! .

I don't know if this is helpful at all but I suspect it also helps to have a healthy ejaculation at least every other day!

I think that as far as BPH is concerned, if your DRE is normal, that a "watchful waiting" attitude is best unless the symptoms are really bothersome.

Re: Any one familiar with "Prolieve Thermodilation System" for BPH

I was on Cardura for several years and then went to a new urologist who put me on Flomax. I still had urgency problems and the Flomax seemed to give me a runny nose and a congested throat. I still was up several times at night. About 9 months ago I went back on the generic Cardura and since then I have stopped my runny nose and throat problems and was not getting up as often at night.

Also about six months ago I read about a Uro who put her patient on natural progesteron cream for his BPH. He was to rub the cream on his scrotum. She said after about six months he had no more problems with BPH. Don't remember the details.

Well, I had been on progesteron cream for osteoporosis for over a year at that time. I usually put it on my face.

Even with taking Cardura, (Flomax was worse) I had urgency problems, a weak flow and dripping after peeing. Seemed the valve would take forever to close. I figured I had nothing to lose since I was already using the cream, so I started rubbing part of the cream on my scrotum and after awhile I noticed that I had a much better flow and did not have the urgency problems. Still have the dripping at the end, but I don't think it is as bad. I get up maybe once at night, and then only because I wake up and think it is a good idea. Sometimes I sleep right throught the night without waking up.

You do have to shave your scrotum. The cream should be applied on a place with no or little hair.

I am to have a dexascan soon and will know if the cream is helping my osteroporosis. It did help my wife's. I did not want to go on Fosomax or the other ostero drugs. Tried it once and it was nasty. The cream is available in Health Food Stores. Al

Re: Any one familiar with "Prolieve Thermodilation System" for BPH

Natural Progesterone cream was described in a book on natural health alternatives by a Dr. Lee. Most of the info is slanted toward women, because most info on osteoporosis is for women. Men also get osteoporosis. I have had dexascans for several years and they have showed that my bone mass was decreasing, even though I am healthy, exercise, run, hike, etc.

Since it seems to be working for my wife I saw no harm in trying it myself. I started going to her Dr. and he said that men also use the cream. He also said that men needed Testosterone in order to increase bone mass. So here I am using both.

I have been using the cream for almost 2 years and am do to have a dexascan within the next 2 months. I have been on Androgel for about a year. I do not feel any affects from the Androgel, good or bad. I don't think my testicles are getting any smaller. At this point they would be hard pressed to get much smaller. They do not affect my libido or performance.
