left epididymis has a dull pain

I'm 18. I woke up mondaymorning and theres an ache above my left testicle (not my testicle but near it). The ache is also in my pelvic area above my groin below my left abdomen. I was wondering if it was because i was doing abdominal workouts the night before, but why do I feel an ache above my left testicle? I decided to feel for lumps but there aren't any. I did find something that I found strange--like right above each of my testicles theres something that feels like glands? Not sure if thats normal either, but its my left "gland" that aches a bit. I think the glands are called an epididymis.

The pain kind of feels like the AFTER feeling that you get in your lower stomach when you get hit in the balls. I feel this pain when I walk and stand.

Please help. I'm scared and worried.

Re: left epididymis has a dull pain

sendo,
it sounds like you have epididymitis or could have just strained an abdominal muscle. It could also be both but you just noticed the testicle part because of your self exam.

I am concerned that you say it is an "ache" and then you say it is "pain." You also say that it is on the epididymus and then your drawing is actually in your abdomen.

I would say that if it does not clear up in a few days (without sex) you should have a doctor examine you.

Vigorous sex will often radiate that "kick in the balls" pain up the spermatic cord into the area you have circled. A covered ice pack on the testicle for several very brief periods (no more than a minute or 2) would help testicular pain and any OTC anti-inflammatory would help. If in a day or so it eases, you probably just strained that area.

However, men are notorious for walking around with this type of thing for months but if it does not heal of its own accord in a few days you may have an infection that needs antibiotic treatment. An infection doesn't only come from a sexually transmitted disease. You can get these from masturbation as well.

The abdominal part really sounds like muscle strain and a covered ice pack on it will help it heal as well.

In either case, if you are having *severe* or *constant* pain, get thee to an ER. An "ache" is not severe and a "kick in the nuts" pain usually passes. It may recur but is not constant. I hope that makes sense. Keep us posted!

Thanks a lot for this detailed response. Now that you've mentioned "spermatic cord" thats where I was feeling the pain. The pain felt like it was going through a veiny-like cord.

I woke up this morning and the pain is very little to no pain at all. I don't feel that kick in the balls anymore but my left gland still feels a little bit of pain (i think..). For some reason it's difficult for me to describe where the pain really is.

I'll see how things go by the end of the day and post up on it.

Re: left epididymis has a dull pain

Ok well the day is almost over and the dull pain has really diminished. Just wondering, how could masturbation cause an infection?

Glad you are feeling better Sendo!

It's not necessarily the masturbation itself that causes infection but 2 ways that come to mind are it may be the lube you use or if you also do anal stimulation with the same hand.

Those damn low toilets where a man's penis easily touches the bowl probably don't help either. I hate those!

Vigorous masturbation and/or repeated edging can cause a temporary soreness of the epididymus and spermatic cord as well but these will usually clear up with a covered ice pack and/or OTC anti-inflammatory.

In any case, if your epididymus still feels painful to the touch (you should be able to feel it but it should not be painful to the touch), even though your other aches and pains are better, you may need a 10 day course of antibiotics. In order to get in to see the doc sooner than later, on the phone when you call the receptionist, talk like it is the first day you had it what with the pain and all but say it has been several days. That should get you in sooner. The receptionists never relay that info to the doc so you can give more specific feedback during the exam.
