Free testicles, dull ache?

Recently I've been experiencing a dull ache in both of my testicles, I've had this pain on and off for a year at least but it usually subsides after about 10 minutes. This time though it's a little more persistant but I'm sure I've just exacerbated it by squeezing and moving them around, because the pain doesn't feel any different to the other times. The pain isn't very high (About 2/3 out of 10 at worst) and it gets better every now and again, but it's still there. I think I also make it worse when I think about it, because when I'm doing something I can't really feel it. While I was checking my testicles for lumps because of the ache I realised that I could move my testicles pretty freely. Occasionally they would be hanging horizontally and I can twist it upside down so the large part of the epididymis at the top of the testicle is on the bottom. Any more than 180 degrees and it hurts and reverts back to what it was. I read up about it and I've realised I might have bell clapper deformity, which could be a reason for the slight pain. I called the Doctor and arranged an appointment but I was just wondering what it sounds like from your point of view. Will I need to have the surgery to fix it?

I had a similar pain, and it turned out to be Epididymitis. Even after being off the Antiboitics, the pain persisted for months. I still have a mild discomfort, from time to time.

Re: Free testicles, dull ache?

Did you have it in both testicles? And what did it feel like? How long did it last? This is the first time that the pain has lasted longer than 1/2 hour. Sometimes if I shift my position it feels better but then the ache comes back. Can your turn your testicles upside down? I kinda thought it could of been cancer but without a lump and in both testicles the chances are incredibly low, so I guess it's something else. Is there a way to aleviate the pain?

It was only in one testicle, but then again I only have one testicle. In the beginning the pain was constant, worse when sitting. I didn't try turning it around/upside down. Ouch! Neither should you. I felt the best when I was standing, or lying down. I tried ICE, and HEAT. Ice helped a little. Don't put it directly on it, and not for very long.

There is a condition called Testicular Torsion, where a testicle gets turned around, and the blood supply is cut off. This is a medical emergency, that requires immediate surgery (minor) to correct it. Otherwise you will lose your testicle. However, this usually causes extreme pain, not a dull ache. But it's been known to cause a dull ache when the blood is not completely cut off.

Forget Cancer! It wouldn't cause pain. Kidney Stones are a possiblity. A Hurnia is a possiblity. However I would guess you have Epididymitis, like I did. I few weeks of antibiotics should do the trick.

Get to the Doc and get it checked out. Keep us posted.

Re: Free testicles, dull ache?

I've read about Torsions, although all I found was that the main symptom is extreme pain and swelling (neither of which I have). If the dull ache is a symptom of cutting off some of the blood from the testicle will it die? I probably should of mentioned that I've had this ache on and off for about 36 hours now, when I woke up it took a while before the ache actually appeared so I was able to have a good night sleep. As for being able to turn my testicle upside down, it doesn't hurt at all in fact it pretty much slides into place like it would normally. I've always had some mobility in my testicles, but I never figured it to be abnormal. Also I find the pain doesn't really differentiate changing stances, although sometimes it feels like pressure alleviates the ache.

The fact that you had this dull ache for a year, probalby says you don't have Torsion. That fact that the pain is on and off could mean a Hurnia.

I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think it's life (or testicle) threatening. But all this is speculation, and the only way to know for sure is to see your Doc.

Re: Free testicles, dull ache?

It's very odd the pain I had in my left testicle has now passed to my right, which either means the left testicle has died which is virtually impossible because I can feel it but there is no pain. Or, it can't be a torsion because it wouldn't just untwist itself and then twist in the right testicle. I've tried to feel for a sign of twisting above the testicle and I can't feel anything besides the cords that don't feel twisted at all, and from the diagrams I've seen I should be able to feel if it's twisted (especially if the testical is horizontal which is usually is, which mine is not). Maybe the veins on the right side are a little enlarged but not by much which could point to a variocele right? What do you think about that? I should definately rule out torsion right?
