Lump on left testical :(

Hi

I recently(in the last few weeks) have discovered a lump on my left testicle.. its quite large, its not just a small bump but rather a mass on the bottom and back of the left testicle. I dont check my balls regularly.. infact i dont, and its just a fluke i noticed this during a shower and cleaning around there. I am so ******* scared right now, i am just turned 17 a few months ago, and am dreading that this is cancer. Some of my grandparents have died from cancer and strokes, but none from testicular or prostate etc. I am planning on going to a doctor next week but dont know which kind to see.. i am pretty poor so i dont want to be 'referred' to another doctor so to speak.. which doctor should i go see about this? I assume a GP could only refer me to someone else, as they couldnt actually be definitive about what it is without tests and so on. Which kind of doctor handles this and what could this be?

A bit about the lump. Ok so its sort of bumpy and what not and it changes in size now and then.. sometimes its almost like its not there and other times its very noticable. Something else that i just clicked onto.. ok so my left nipple has been kind of 'puffy' for the last few months, i figured it was just hormones seen as im a teenager, but am starting to think it has something to do with my testicular lump. Does anyone know ANY information to make me sleep better at night till i go to a doctor next week?

Oh ya and im positive it is attached to the testicle and not protruding from somewhere else.

go to a doctor now!! not next week. not tomorrow. now! the longer you wait the worse the problem could get. and you may get transferred from a GP to a specialist. It could just be a cyst. it might be a tumor. you dont want to risk losing one or both of your testicals to cancer! go to the doctor!!!

I thought health care was free in AUS? If not go to an emergency room or free clinic. an ER has to treat you(well here in the states they do)

Its your testicles. but I would do anything, sell anything, borrow, beg, etc... to get to the doctor for this.

Re: Lump on left testical :(

I don't mean to scare to you, but I've read that more men die of testicular cancer between the ages of 18 and 25 in a year then the total number of women who die of breast cance in a year. You are in the prime age group for this (yes, it is mostly younger men who get testicular cancer) so you should really get to a doctor, any doctor as soon as is possible.

This really isn't anything that you should fool around with...yes, it may just be a cyst but you won't know until you have it checked.

Re: Lump on left testical :(

I have good news and bad news. The bad news is you could have cancer in your testicle. The good news is, Testicular Cancer has a very high cure rate. Frankly, if I had to get cancer, I would want TC, because it's very slow moving, and responds well to treatment.

However, you need to get checked out by a Urologist as soon as you can. It's very important that you don't delay any longer then you have to. If it is TC, the sooner you get treated the better. Try not to worry too much, because even if it is TC, you should be fine.

Good luck, and please keep us posted.

Re: Lump on left testical :(

How long can you have testicular cancer for? Im concerned about how long i may have had this I guess it cant have been more than a few months because im sure i would have noticed when cleaning, although maybe not. How long into it would you start having drastic effects like ejaculating blood and what not. I mean chances are this has only just recently popped up but maybe not.

Oh and does testicular cancer tumour(s) change shape and size etc? because this does change its size etc.. specifically when i lie down

And ya thanks, ill see a urologist.

Re: Lump on left testical :(

you can have it until you die. you potentially can lose both testicles. if it spreads (like in lance armstrong) it can go all over the body.

No i mean, how long would you have it before you noticed ill-effects from it. Like, if i hadnt noticed this till now and it had been there for months would i have experienced any ill effects by now, or even years(very unlikely)?

Just asking cause i dont know if i noticed it because it just popped up or because i just noticed it by chance, i dont check my balls for lumps ever.

depends.. the first symptom is the lump and maybe some pain. then the testicle swelling and lots of pain (it has to be removed at this point and hopefully hasn't spread to the other one or gotten into your lymp nodes which will spread it throughout the body hence armstrongs brain lessions). Most guys dont noticed it till it gets to the swollen hurts like hell stage. You may feel some discomfort from it from time to time until it gets tot he swollen stage.

Re: Lump on left testical :(

Lynx,

TC takes a very consistent route, which is one of the reasons it's highly curable. It goes from Testicle to Lymph Nodes, to Lungs, to Brain, to everywhere. Armstrong was coughing up blood for a long time before he went in to get checked out. His was spread to his Lungs and Brain. I'm not sure if it spread anywhere else in him though i.e. Liver. Also, TC responses well to treatment, so even if it spreads to lymph nodes, lungs, etc., the cure rate is still high.

When you see the Urologist, he should be able to determine pretty quickly if you do have it and what stage you are in, by a chest X-Ray, and blood tests. If the tests come up negative, it doesn't mean you don't have it, it just means it hasn't spread much, if at all i.e. it's still in your testicle, MAYBE Lymph Nodes. If they cannot detect it, that is a time for you to celebrate, because either you don't have Cancer, or you do, and it's in the First Stage. However, at this point the only way to know for sure if you have it (or don't) is to have your testicle surgically removed and biopsyed.

SO, if they do suspect you have Testicular Cancer, they will want to remove the testicle with the tumor. If it tests positive, via biopsy, you have it, and they'll want to start treatment with radiation or chemo, inorder to kill off anything that has spread. Then it becomes a waiting game, to see if it shows up again. After a certain number of years (I think 2 or 3) with no sign you're considered cured.

However, if it does show up again, in the lungs for instance, that meant it was in your lymph nodes, and wasn't killed off by treatment. At this point you have two options. You can go through another round of treatment (radiation or chemo, opposite of what you did before), or elect to have surgery on your Lymph Nodes (RPLND) to remove the infected ones. If you do have surgery on your LN's you will know for sure you are cured, BUT that is a very extensive surgery (LONG RECOVERY). From what I've read, this surgery should be a last resort. The good news is, MOST of the time this surgery is not needed, and the condition can be cured without it.

This may be scary right now, but just remember, even if you do have Testicular Cancer, it has one of the Highest Cure Rates of any cancer. If you have to get cancer, this is the one to get.

Re: Lump on left testical :(

Thanks for t he replys you guys.

So, generally my left testical will have to be removed? like pretty much no matter what it is, im going to have to have surgery to either cut it off or cut the testical off? Im not so concerned about losing it i guess, thats why we have 2 of them. I spose its a pretty safe surgery tho, removing a testical, seems like it would be pretty strait forward and low-risk.

This could also be some sort of rupture too yeah? I have been knee'd in the balls a couple of times in the last few years - very hard, like full on grab my shoulders and smash my balls with your knee as hard as possible. (some people will resort to anything in a fight huh)

Oh, does losing a testical have any health effects? hormones, sex drive, etc etc?

IF they suspect cancer they will want to remove it. Removing just the tumor is not done, unless it's your only testicle. They will do it Laproscopiclly. i.e. Key Hole surgery. They will remove it up through your abdomen, not your scrotum. I had an Undescended Testicle removed the same way, and it was no big deal. It was outpatient, and I was almost fully recovered in a week.

Ouch, I think having it removed will hurt A LOT less. They will also do an ultrasound to make sure there's not something structurally wrong. However if they think it's a tumor, I'm pretty sure they will want to remove it.

One testicle should be able to produce all the Testosterone you need, and enough Sperm to have children. It may take a little bit for your body to get used to, but you should be normal in that respect.

Good luck, and please keep us posted.
