What should be tested for Low Testosterone

I have been on Androgel for 2 months and I'm getting ready to have some bloodwork done to check to see if it is working or not. I dont think my urologist is testing for ALL the right things. I have read on the boards that they should be testing for more than Free and Total Testosterone. As of right now, he is checking that, along with something else....but thats it. Does anyone know what else the urologist should test? Thanks.

Re: What should be tested for Low Testosterone

If on androgel I would test for total T, estradiol, and DHT. I would also want to know my SHBG level but this could be done once before treatment. If SHBG is high it means you will need total T to be high for the androgel to work. If low then total T does not need to be as high. The goal is to get free T to a level of about 160 pg/ml to begin with. Higher SHBG means you need higher total T to attain this level of free T.
