Just thought I'd update and start a new thread for us.
My current status- Burning red scrotum and penis. A tingling feeling that comes and goes. Constant moistness. Sometimes more sometimes less. Walking/running makes everything worse. Folliculitis on my arms, chest and back that won't go away and is very very oily. Penis and scrotum skin very very thin. Masturbation for too long breaks the skin.
How it started-
Had sex. Then- Bumps on shaft and tingling on scrotum. Then skin on penis became just weird. like there was some sort of fluid deep in there. That went away quickly. Then Burning on scrotum and penis. then head of penis skin flaked off. Then the burning progressed.
I've been tested for: Herpes 1 & 2, HIV, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, and Chlamydia. all negative.
I've done every anti-fungal. pills and creams.
creams- hydrocortisones, steroids, antibiotic etc
pills- doxycycline, cephalexin, Azithromycin, Valtrex
and laser treatment- which did quell the burning, but it's still there.
Any suggestions are welcome. I'm not sure what to try next, aside from curling up into a ball and wondering how I could be so stupid.

I'm currently using Zonalon cream in the morning, Vaseline at night (or when the itching/burning/tingling gets bad), and have recently started taking Naltrexone. Feeling better, although still not great yet.
I hadn't heard of Naltrexone before, but the dermatologist said a drug for helping people get over alcoholism. It makes you really sick if you drink alcohol, but it was discovered to reduce itching in some clinical trials. I don't drink alcohol, so I haven't seen any negative effects. I'm not sure how long it will take to work (or if it will work).
The Zonalon cream seems to be causing additional redness and burning. It almost seems to be irritating the scrotum. I'm thinking about stopping it and just trying Vaseline and Naltrexone for awhile.
I'll post an update as to how I'm doing. I'm pretty sure this is a form of Psoriasis, unfortunately, so temporary control might be as much as I can hope for.
Hi to the newcomers and the guys who have followed this thread since day one,
Just a quick update on my last post.
I have seen number 2 dermo who has diagnosed lichen simplex (as described by so many others on here)
He was a sympathetic doc who gave me the full once over and listened intently to my concerns.
As i said in previous post, GOLD SPOT alleviates the symptoms as it contains menthol but doesnt get rid of it. My dermo has prescribed a really mild 25mg anti depressant to turn the itch off and a tub of DERMACOOL which contains menthol. I must say its early days yet and i dont think the tablets have kicked in, but the dermacool is like putting my tackle in a block of ice. not only does it moisturise but also soothes the itch.
Ok...Continue from Chronic Red Burning Scrotum Thread 3.
I have the same problem like you guys described (for more than 10 years), and I have been through more than 10 Dermatology Doctors, 100 medicines> Doctor cut a piece of skin and do the lab test twice (3 years apart). The test results tell me that I have LSC (LICHEN SIMPLEX CHRONICUS), my Doc also call Fungal, yeast etc...
I bought almost every anti Fungal, yeast medicine treatment in Longdrugs, Wallgreens, Target drug store etc.. I also searched the Internet and bought any thing that people in forums suggested but none of them works...
Two weeks ago, I got the name of this medicine from one of the post in this thread.
I asked my doctor for this prescription drug. The problem went away on the 10th day of this drug. I still have one more day on this antibiotic drug. I feel so release and hope this itch goes away forever..
Here is the drug:
-Metronidazole 500MG Tablets (2 tablets a day for 14 days).
This cost around $29.00 (USD)
Note: The 1st 7 days of this drug I feel normal but for the last few days I few so sleepy. However, I feel so good because my itch is gone.
You can search for flagyl (Metronidazole is generic drug of Flagyl).
Does anyone else hear your skin crackle and get intense burning when you spray Tinactin Jock Itch spray on your scrotum? I've found that if I use the spray for like a week, the burning/crackling from the spray actually lessens day by day. RSS Symptoms flare down whenever I do this, but I kinda think it's the cold propellant in the can that's gradually soothing the skin, not the tolnaftate... because I've put all sorts of anti-fungal powders on the area before to no effect. Any thoughts on this?
I actually called Tinactin's comments line and the person I talked to never heard anything about crackling noises. Has anyone else experienced this? There's no crackling when I spray it on other parts of my body, what do you think it means?
Hi! I have had this condition for about six months and it is driving me crazy. I have tried absolutely everything over the counter for fungus/yeast and nothing works. However, I started applying Aloe Vera Gel (with Lidacaine and Menthol) a few weeks ago and that has helped a lot with the itching. My plan now is to call my doctor and try to get some Metronidazole (Flagyl) because it sounds like someone had success with that.
Larry - I've tried Tinactin before. Back when this first started, I thought it was a fungal infection since I also had athlete's foot. The Tinactin DID burn and crackle when used on my scrotum. The burning was incredibly painful for about 10 minutes, but then there was little tingling/itching of the scrotum for about 12 hours. After about a year, however, the Tinactin stopped working (although it still burns when applied). My feet, on the other hand, stopped itching and I'm very careful (sandals in the shower, no bare feet ever) so that they won't start again.
The oral 50MG daily of Naltrexone does not appear to be working at all for me (and this is after about 3 weeks of using it). I have another dermatologist appointment a week from Thursday. I think I'll ask about Flagyl (Metronidazole) and Doxycycline. I know Uptownnotown did not have success with Doxycycline, but I found a recent medical report that suggests it has worked for others:

Those are good news! Its good to see that a treatment is working for one person. Many of you are going to go for "Flagyl" (Metronidazole), so PLEASE LET US KNOW HOW YOU DID. Dont forget to come back and share your experience, specially if it works.
I also think you should be aware of the next, I found it doing some reaearch on Flgyl:
Good luck! And please bring good news!!

hello, been here months ago, did have a burning bag n similar symptoms, now my bag seems to be a dark brown sorta color n shrivelled at certain times other times every ting looks normal n feels normal but there is def something wong, been to std clinics 3-4 times doctor 7 + times skin specialist once, have tried everything creams oils lotions, every one says there is nothing wrong, but its my sac n i know something aint right. when im in bed everything seems to be normal, but once i get up outta bed my sac starts to tighten, last year everything seemed to be better then i had unprotcted sex one night i was drunk the symptoms returned the next day after being clear(has anyone ever got their semen tested for an infection?) because b4 that it was a while b4 i actually came.
I called my doctor to get Metronidazole pills last week and he prescribed them right away. However, when I picked up the prescription it was the cream instead. So I was dissapointed about that but started using the cream. IT IS WORKING. My redness is fading away and it almost doesn't itch anymore (after a week of applying it). I put the Metronidazole cream on first and then Aloe Vera Gel (with Lidacaine and Menthol) about ten minutes later. I decided to keep using the Aloe Vera Gel since it helps with the itching (and for some reason I think it has a positive effect as well). I apply both morning and night. If it doesn't go completely away with the cream I am getting the pills. I will let you know if it goes completely away. Thank you!
I used Metronidazole 500MG pill three weeks ago for two weeks (28 Pills), The itching is completely gone for 11 days now. I still have the Metronidazole Cream and I do not want to use it as long as no itch.
