Need Insight/Input on Low T Status

As some of you know, I started taking 0.5 mg of arimidex twice a week for the past 5 weeks.

Approximately 2 1/2 weeks ago I had bloodwork done to see how the arimidex was working. The results came back and my t level had gone up to 610 and my estradiol was down at 24. I was pretty excited. At this point, I had much more energy, my strength was getting back to normal. However, my libido had not changed one bit. Still had relatively no sex drive whatsoever.

About 1 1/2 weeks ago, my doctor put me on a pure testosterone gel and after the 4th day of taking it, I started to feel on a downward spiral like I did when I was on androgel earlier in the summer and the effects began to wane. I told the doctor what i was feeling and he told me to stop taking it and to go get bloodwork done.

So last Thursday I go and get bloodwork done for LH, FSH, Testosterone, Estradiol. I had read on this forum where someone said that libido could be closely tied in with DHT. I also had them test for DHT as well.

Well my results came back today and are as follows:

Testosterone 540 Ref 241-827
FSH 7.1 Ref 1.5-9.3
LH 2.9 Ref 1.4-18.1
Estradiol >15 Ref 0-53
DHT 33 Ref 30-85

So essentially in 3 weeks my testosterone count has dropped from 610 to 540. My FSH and LH numbers have stayed the same. Estradiol dropped from 24 down to >15.

My doctor has told me to cut back my arimidex to only a quarter tablet per week. However, my doctor seemed to focus in on the DHT number. He felt like my DHT number was fairly low. He is going to put me on a gel with a mixture of DHT and testosterone. He thinks he may have pinpointed the problem and that this could really get my libido and t count back up to par. What are your thoughts on this? Have any of you been given DHT before or know of anyone who has? Anyone have some insight into DHT?

Any responses are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Need Insight/Input on Low T Status

I have posted repeatedly on the libido boost with exogenous DHT.
I have read a few websites reporting on large scale tests of DHT
effects on libido which always indicate that it's a key to positive
libido gains but most doctors (like mine) have little positive regard
for it. Glad yours has better sense. Please let us know how the
added DHT works for you. When I was only a litle more than a
month into T-Cyp injections about a year ago my DHT went up
to 98 and I could hardly sit still. Since then it has declined quite
a bit. I have read that it is a far stronger androgen than testosterone.

Re: Need Insight/Input on Low T Status

DHT may be one factor in libido but it is not the cure all. It's not that simple. But I agree since you are at the low end there you need to get it higher. You can also increase it by rubbing the gel or cream over larger areas of your skin or directly on your scrotum and penis. There is an enzyme in the skin that converts the T in the gel/cream to DHT called 5 alpha reductase. It is especially high in the genital area skin. So the more skin used to rub in the gel the more of it is converted to DHT. Especially if it is rubbed into the genital area.

Re: Need Insight/Input on Low T Status

I dont see your free or Bio T on there. They are more important than total T. They may be low and effecting how you feel.

Re: Need Insight/Input on Low T Status

One other good thing to be said about exogenous DHT, it
cannot be converted into any form of estrogen. Whatever
you put in you get full benefit from it.. I'm really wondering
what effect you experience from it. Please let us know.
