anyone had vericocele surgery?? - Men's Health Message Board

hi, im 26 and have had vericocele on the left side for 10 yrs. in last few yrs its gotten larger and i have pain that comes and goes. ultrasound 3yrs ago and one now showed the testicle has shrunk about 10%, sperm analysis wasnt good either (but not that bad). i decided to have it fixed with surgery, not for thte pain but more so the testicle wouldnt shrink and i would have problems concieving later on. the doctor told me that are a few small risks and i have it scheduled for next week.

ive been reading up on the complications such as blood loss to testicle and hydrocele (build up of fluid that may become chronic). now im very worried and having second thoughts on the surgery. im also scared if they mess something up will i have problems with erections??? ive read horror stories of guys who had it and now have terrible chronic pain and swelling. im just woundering anyone here have anymore info or experience. thanx

I have the same issue you have. Back when I was a teen, I had a urologist to take a look at it. I have minor pain from time to time, but other than that, no testicle shrinkage that I know of. If the pain and shrinkage isn't the main issue, just having a family later, ask your doctor about it. I don't think the shrinkage would effect you having kids. Remember, it just takes one sperm out of the millions to fertalize the egg. Horror stories? You're always going to hear horror stories with any kind of surgery. As for me, I've lived with varicocele veins in my testis ever since I discovered the little wormy things.lol.. Hey, don't have the surgery! You can always reschedule at a later date if you change your mind in the future.
