Re: help me diagnose dry, flaky, peely skin on tip of penis.

Hi everyone, I had used the OTC yeast cream for about two months and the patch started dissapearing and left a scar and then gradually, even the scar disappeared over a period of about 3-4 months. Now, there is no scar and no patch and everything is fine.

nice to hear that man, i now know that hope is near..

since this started, my urology doctor keep telling me it's not STD and this post also say, somewhat, you guys doctor told you that it is not STD, so you continue to have relations with your wife.. so, since this started, i haven't had any with my wife, because I'm worry that she may get it, and it will be harder for her to get this out because it's inside her.

for the man who continue to have intercourse with your wife, is she OK, any issue with her, like having Yeast Infection or so, please let me know so i can at least ask my wife to give me a hand job or something ... anyway,

also, i went to the urology to get some sample to get it tested, i canceled it because, he told me his is going to get a chunk of it out... so i was like, 'ammmmmmm yah (quote from The Office)',so I told him that I will call my Primary Physician first... so I'm schedule to go to the Primary Doctor with the Wife so she can hear the doctor that this is not transferable so i can at least do something with here. ( oh yea i forgot to mention she is allergic of latex, that's why we haven't had any since this started, so more info you can give me will be helpful)

finally, someone posted about, it gradually went away by continuing using OTC but when i Re-READ the post, it's gone.. I guess that's a GOOD News too....

thanks for all the updates guys, we all know we don't want this happening to other man too.. because, it's horrible....

Re: help me diagnose dry, flaky, peely skin on tip of penis.

henry: i was prescribed both by my derm.

to jones: all (and the only) symptoms i experienced can be read in my above comments.

newyorkdude: my derm was said that this is not uncommon in men. it just happens. i was fortunate to find the right combination of topicals. my advice, since it looks you may have something similar to what i experienced. be patient, and learn to live with it while you determine what works best for you. try to eat healthy, get physical activity, occupy your mind. for me, it was a constant weight on my mind... i dealt with it for well over a year! be consistent with your treatment, and find a good derm

Re: help me diagnose dry, flaky, peely skin on tip of penis.

Thanks california1. I already do eat healthy and get physical activity. I consciously try to be healthy. I'll try to find a derm, but ugh, that's awkward. I know it's not a big deal to the doc, but still, to pull down my pants and go through that. Ugh.

For now, I'm gonna see if the cortizone or an OTC can knock it out before I start spending money on a doctor or start applying steroids to my private area.

Sperico, what OTC yeast cream. I'd like to try that.

Re: help me diagnose dry, flaky, peely skin on tip of penis.

OK, i went to the doctor today, the primary doctor!... the first doctor say, its not std, so it's good.. so she ask for another doctor to come in, and he also said it's not std', they both think that maybe it's cause by the med i use, i told them, that the original area where it has problem is all clear and the only thing reddest is the area where it spread.. on top of the finish head.

both doctors think that it is probebly cause by the med and also the head scratching to my underwear... they said, it's like domino, the problem is already their so it just irritated more ... so both told me to get an undewear like something snug so it won't move much and stop using the med for a couple of weeks to see if that decrease and if not then i need to come back and they will refer me dermatologist...

California1, i was wondering about ketocanazole 2% and desonide .05% are they both steroid? both doctors told me they don't want to prescribe the steriod yet because that will cause the penis skin to thin out..

so, right now, i'm going to take a shower and leave it alone.. if i notice an increase in size in a couple of days, then i'm going to call them.. maybe take a picture to compare.

thanks for posting everyone..

Re: help me diagnose dry, flaky, peely skin on tip of penis.

i have seen another derm and he also confirms that this is lichen plan

and he said it wont heal quickly , but eventually with time and cortisone it should heal ...
you guys should ask your derm about this ...(lichen plan)

Re: help me diagnose dry, flaky, peely skin on tip of penis.

rapmotive...can you go into more detail about what your derm said?

1. How long have you had this red dry skin on your penis? Would you describe it the same as me and california1?
2. How long does the derm think it will take to heal?
3. How frequent did your derm tell you to put cortizone on the affected area?

I ask b/c I've been applying cortizone and I swear I'm seeing improvement. I'm not sure though. It's still there and peeling, but it seems lighter. It doesn't seen an "angry" red anymore. I'm not 100% sure though. I hate having this!

Re: help me diagnose dry, flaky, peely skin on tip of penis.

its a patch of skin on the penis that is red and flaky ... and when i used this cream the flakyness was gone...now this patch of skin looks like a bald spot still red, but not flaky anymore. the derm said i need to use this cortisone cream 1% twice a day a small amount on the spots .... he told me to have some patience because it will go away but in matters of month or maybe even a year... and i asked him about the name and what it would be he said it is Lichen Plan. I also asked him about the 2% Cortisone : he told me it would not be a good idea to use to much of that since it will make your penis's skin thinner and it would create other problems...

Re: help me diagnose dry, flaky, peely skin on tip of penis.

Thanks...

Is this over the counter coritzone? Also, what kind of coritzone did he tell you to use?

What have sounds like what I have. Red and flaky, but when coritzone is applied, it's not flaky.

I've been applying my over the counter coritzone only once a day as I don't want to put too much medicine on that sensitive region. Sometimes I skip a day if it's looking better.

Re: help me diagnose dry, flaky, peely skin on tip of penis.

You guys really don't want to be self medicating. Only a doctor, and usually it's a dermatologist, knows what is really going on with these things. One case might be lichen planus, another might be eczema, another might be psoriasis. The treatment might be different for each. You only get one penis. It is worth the trip to the dermatologist, to find the real cause, and the real treatment.

yes the derm has prescribed the Cream ...
it is important to see a derm ... he will make the final decision on this
i suggest you to see at least 2 different derms ..

i'm going to setup another appointment to my Primary Care and ask them to send me to a Dermatologist for another information..

Re: help me diagnose dry, flaky, peely skin on tip of penis.

Sound advice about self medicating..here is some more advice: Mine is clearing up little by little with a combination of Desonide and Clotrimazole that my doctor prescribed.

Here is what I did to stop worrying about it..I took it head on since I know my wife is my only partner.

Went to the primary care doctor--confirmed it wasn't an STD, after that, got referred to a dermatologist after the initial cream didn't clear it up as fast as I wanted, then had the Derm take a biopsy(its really not bad guys--the needle pinches and you don't feel it after that), but I had to confirm it wasn't cancerous.

Once the labs came back and cleared that..i was cool and just continued with the two creams and now its going away little by little. Mine started with a scratch to my penis from my spouse giving me oral and I may have caught some bacteria at the gym after that..who knows.

Anyway, hope this helps but bottom line is see a doc and rule out the bad stuff and you'll be on your way to health again

Lightbulb Re: help me diagnose dry, flaky, peely skin on tip of penis.

Hi California1/ Henry29,
thanks a lot for sharing the information.
I have the same prob for atleast 2.5 yrs and it makes me atleast feel better that I am not alone.
Esp it is not something life threatening.

About 2 yrs ago, I went to a derm.. He just dismissed it and said it would go away.. He gave me some cream.. never worked.

I switched to a different derm.. and he also confirmed that it is no STD.. he gave me this cream - DECOCORT (product of malaysia)
It has Miconazole Nitrate 2.0%, Hydrocortisone 1.0%, Chlorocresol 0.16%
It has done no good.

I think, I will have to move to something else now.. will take a doc's appointment again. Will definitely post the results here.

Re: help me diagnose dry, flaky, peely skin on tip of penis.

Hello all. I have the exact same symtoms. It started to get a little red after I had sex w/ gf while the sex was a little rough, she was dry during various encounters, and on (at least) one occassion scratched me during oral. As we continued to have sex the symtoms intensified leading to dry, flaky, peeling skin mostly on penis head and tip (reminding me of a sunburn). The skin underneath was shiny and red. I used Neosporin over a 5 week period until it began to be painful yesterday after washing with soap. After reading this post, I concluded that I likely have a contact irritation (i.e. rash). I bought a tube of Desitin (for baby rashes and chaffed/chapped skin) and used it quite generously yesterday at the height of my discomfort and pain. Its been less than 24 hours now using Desitin hourly (except during sleep) and most of the discomfort is gone, inflamation has calmed down substantially but it is still various shades of pink in different locations. I will monitor the situation and post a follow-up for those interested.

Re: help me diagnose dry, flaky, peely skin on tip of penis.

Its now been almost 48 hours using Desitin (for baby rashes and chaffed/chapped skin) and my symtoms are clearing up and I am much more comfortable. The head/tip of my penis is still light pink and underneath has a few darker pink spots but overall my penis looks pretty healthy considering how it was flaky and raw in spots just two days ago. Now...moving forward...more foreplay and lube to make sure she is really wet when we have sex. And...I will keep Desitin (or similar product) handy for treatments after scratches or rougher/longer sex. I'll post another follow-up in a few days but I have already seen pretty significant improvements.

Re: help me diagnose dry, flaky, peely skin on tip of penis.

Here is a 3 Day follow-up:

On day 3, I switched to a product called "Balmex" diaper rash cream. Desitin (rash and chafed/chapped skin ointment) worked really well initially (most of the effectiveness was the first 24 hours of treatment) but it is somewhat oily/greasy (much like Vaseline) transferring thru my underwear. Since I was somewhat "raw" in spots, I would use Desitin all over again initially because it was really easy to apply in those sensitive areas while Balmex is very thick and pasty. Anyway, Balmex worked really well by reducing the pink/redness in the remaining spots without the greasiness so its all good.

At this point, my penis looks and feels normal w/ just a few pink spots that only a trained eye might notice. Also, I woke this morning with a surprise down below without any pain. Not bad for 3 days of treatment.

Here are a few other points about my situation that I neglected to mention in earlier posts:

1. No condom was used. This created more skin to skin friction. Also, her dryness combined with rough sex and her scratching oral are circustances that matched earlier posts on this thread.

2. My girlfriend told me she was STD and yeast infection free. I believed her and I was pretty confident that my situation was not STD related. Also, most of the earlier posts had exact same symtoms w/ no STD after testing and doctor visits.

3. One of the earlier posts noted a doc who stated it could be "contact irritation" aka rash. A light bulb went off in my head b/c I once used Desitin when I had a painful rash and it worked almost immediately.

4. I used Neosporin for the first 5 weeks with no improvement at all. In fact, my condition got much worse using Neosporin. Here's the thing I read: The diaper rash treatments block moisture out while promoting healing of the chapped skin. Neosporin may have allowed moisture to get in (i.e. spreading the rash). Who knows? But these diaper rash ointments/creams are specifically formulated for chapped skin in these sensitive areas.
So that's it folks. I am crossing my fingers that I am clear of danger.

Hope my post is helpful to someone else.

Re: help me diagnose dry, flaky, peely skin on tip of penis.

Here is another quick update:

On Days 5, 6, and 7...I had sex w/ girlfriend several times each day with some redness and discomfort on Day 7. I know we should give it a rest but it actually looks OK considering how it looked a week before. As a side note, before all of this started...I had a long period without regular sexual activity which might have contributed to this problem initially.

Anyway, I have been rotating between Desitin and Balmex (for diaper rashes and chapped skin) during bedtime and in the morning. Both treatments help with the remaining redness but my penis looks normal right now.

I'll report back on any new related developments.

Re: help me diagnose dry, flaky, peely skin on tip of penis.

since the last time i posted...

the doctor told me not to use the OTC cream for (2 weeks), which I did, i notice that skin where the flaking are turn into a little purple.. (which another poster just describe what happen to him before the problem went away)..

it's one month now and a little flaking is left.. praise GOD.. now i'm going to schedule vasectomy so i can have lots of sexual healing relationship with the wife without worrying about pregnancy..
