Vitamins & % daily value..Im confused

I have a question:

im looking at my multivitamin supplement facts. For example Vitamin C. It says Vitamin C 60 MG 100% Daily Value

And say if i need to take 1000MG of Vitamin C in divided doses that would be 1666% Daily Value. Is that ok? Would that be considered overdosing? and then what if i have some orange juice and some fruits... wont i have too much vitamin C?

why do regular vitamins only have 100% daily value's and other ones have like really high amounts.

And how does someone balance the vitamin amounts they need along with their diet? like for example drinking 3 glasses of orange juice now you have 300% daily value. And u take 1000MG of vitamin C in divided doses

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Vitamins & % daily value..Im confused

Most of the vitamins (like vitamin c) are water soluble. So if you have more than your body needs, you basically will just pee it out. The only ones that aren't water soluble are A,D,E,K (fat soluble vitamins). Taking more than you need for these can become toxic.
Not everyone needs a multivitamin. If you have a balanced diet (think 5 servings fruits/vegetables a day, 3 servings of dairy, etc), you may not need it. If you're eating pretty well and taking a multivitamin, you also may not to take single vitamin supplements in addition unless you have a deficiency or are taking them to protect again a disease (ie: vitamin e and heart disease).
