Thumbs down Varicocele

Hello,

I have a Varicocele in my left testicle, I'm currently sixteen years old and have had it since I was about thirteen. It's quite large, and hurts occasionally; I reuse to tell anyone about it and will not have surgery. Are there ANY home cures I could use? Any medicine I don't need to go to a doctors' to get?

Any help would be appreciated, this will drastically improve my life.

Thanks

Re: Varicocele

Hey there,

First thing -- don't worry about this. I'm sure as you know, it isn't a dangerous condition, so don't think that surgery is necessary. I was diagnosed with the same when I was a bit older than you (about 22 I think) - I didn't know what it was, and was worried it was something more serious. So you're doing well if you've identified this yourself (question: you DO know for sure that is one? I would like you to get someone to check it out if not.)
They reckon up to 1 in 7 guys can have these and for many they go undetected. Mine was kinda sore, which is why I went to the doctor in the first place, but once I knew it was benign it hasn't really bothered me since (can be worse in hot weather, though.)
What can you do for it at home without asking a doctor? It's thought that athletic supports (and generally more supportive underwear) can help ease it if it's a bit sore, and also maybe taking anti-inflammatory medication (ibuprofen etc.)
I hope this helps give you some reassurance - but don't ever be shy about seeing a doctor for anything "down there". A bit of awkwardness is nothing compared to getting a problem sorted out and some peace of mind.

Take care,

Alex.

Re: Varicocele

I agree with alex7. Don't worry about it. I have the same thing, right down to the left testicle.lol.. I discovered I had it in my early 20's. always did. One day my curiosity got the best of me, so I made an appointment with a urologist, and he informed me that it was a varicosele vein. harmless, and nothing to worry about. If it gave me alot of pain, I was told that it could be surgically removed. Well, I've never had a lot of pain. A dull pain at times, when sitting or standing to long. If I'm jogging with boxers on etc. Will it effect having a family? It depends on how bad varecosele veins are. I have two beautiful rug-rats, (children) so for me, there wasn't a problem. Nice healthy sperm! To healthy if you ask me.lol..So, long story shortened, see a doctor and make sure that's what you have instead of an hernia. Once you know for sure, it will ease your mind.
